Hey guys!

This weekend I brought home a Tweaker 15 head from GC. After I plugged it in and had been playing for about 5-10 minutes it started making this really loud squealing/squawking sound. Like there was a goose getting electrocuted inside my amp. I thought maybe it was the somewhat dicey electrical system at my church so I took it back home and it did the same thing.

I've read other threads about this amp having power tube or transformer issues, but those all seem to have intermittent volume drops as the symptom. I couldn't find any describing what is happening with my amp?

Any ideas?

Sorry my first post here is a problem/question. Hopefully after some time with my amp I can begin to contribute. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried pre amp tube swaps?? They can go microphonic and make all kinds of crazy noises.

No. I haven't done anything besides power it down and try it in a different building with different guitars and cables.

I wanted to get some outside input before I crack it open.

I did the tap test on all the tubes (pre and power). None of them seem to be microphonic.

Why mess with it at all? Take it back to the GC and swap it out for another one or get a refund. That ain't right.

That's the plan. I just wanted to see if there was anything I could do to fix it myself. GC is not in my town, so I just wanted to see if I could save myself a trip.

Yeah man, if it's not tubes and/or the cable thing you've already tried..........take it back. Good luck.

It's a drag having to return something and even more of a drag if you have to travel far to do it for sure. Don't blame you for wanting to try to just fix it yourself (also my first instinct). Call ahead tho & make sure they have something there for ya. Don't want to make that trek fer nutthin'!
