I have an Egnater Tweaker 15w head which i'm really pleased with. However, one of the 6v6's doesn't glow. Is this normal or is it nearing the end of its life? I'm sure they both lit up a few weeks back! The amp still sounds great with plenty of output. Also, if they need replacing, where can i get 2 x Ruby 6v6gt str valves in the u.k? I can't find any online.....help! Other than that...what a great amp!

Hi Andy, Your Tweaker will have Ruby's in it because both are made in China and because it was the best tube available to them. Ruby's have a reputation as a gainy valve and as a result they are also known as being noisy and have a problem as they age with microphonics. JJ's are your best bet as a good replacment, they work very well in rocky sounding amps with tight lows and clean strong mids and will be more reliable than the Rubys. JJ's are made in the Czech Republic so are readily available and cheep in the UK. You can get very giddy about valves, but if you can not find the valve you want or your best valve is susceptable to duff batches!. My Renegade came with Ruby's and were noisy and were changed for a full set of JJ's first thing. If you change your valves, your preamp valves V2and V3 need to be "phase tested" that just means that both sides of the valve is working at the same strength and will be twice the cost. the valve in the V1 position can just be a cheep factory tested one. your power valves need to be a "pair". I've been using JJ's for years and never had a duff one.

That's a big help. Thankyou. One more thing..... Is it easy to change the 6v6's myself? Is it a simple' lightbulb type job' or do i need to let someone who knows what they're up to do it? Will it need to be re-biased?

The Tweaker is self Biasing so all you do is buy a matched pair of valves. The power valves are held in place with metal jaws that dig into the valve base, they need to be pushed down to open them up a bit, then just pull the old valve out and plug the new ones in, simple as that.

jj's are dull and lifeless in the preamp, go with a tungsol and a sovtek lps in the pi. Maybe a 12ax7c in v2.

New valves arrived yesterday, it was as simple as you say. All good and sounding great. Thanks for your help.
