Hey guys,

There was a discussion the other day on TGP about lining the inside of a guitar cab with that Dacron foam, polyfill stuff.

Do the Egnater cabs come "stuffed" or "unstuffed"?

I have some polyfill in one of my cabs, from another manufacturer. Would taking it out make the cab sound more alive? I know it's *supposed* to make a cab sound bigger, but just wanted to hear all your thoughts on it...

I did a cab years ago. It did make the cab weigh more.

Not that I have a dog in this fight, but what would be the purpose of doing this? I've never heard of it.

If I want my cab to sound bigger I just give it some of these:

The cab I did it seemed to kill a little high end. I also sealed up the cab better at the same time with clear seal. The bottom sounded a little more focused. Could have just been my imagination. I was screwing with cabs and swapping speakers a lot 5 years ago.

Hahah! I saw the commercial last night while watching the TDF. I was joking about the dang pills all night!

But seriously... I think the lining stuff suits only a certain number of cabs. It might, in fact, suit a cab like the 1x12 Rebel because it's front ported. Same goes for the Thieles. I think the guys from Boogafunk, that make "thiele" cabs, put filling in theirs.

Well, just so that I was comparing speaker to speaker with no other outside interference, I swapped that K100 in place of the single V30 in my small 112.

Sounded WAY bigger, alot more muscular, but also brighter and more detailed.

So it wasn't really the foam batting. It was the V30 that sounded kinda dull.

Single V30s just don't work I guess, for me.

Single V30s just don't work well at all IMHO either. Only V30 cab I've dug is a 4x12 honestly. If you are doing 1x12 or 2x12..the K100s or K85s are a much better choice.

And the K100 / T75 combo I have in my TM212s are just killing. Even more than the CL80 / T75 did. I'm going T100 / K85 in my TM 4x12 for sure! :)

While we're on the subject of speakers, did any of you try Eminence speakers (Governor/PRivate Jack/Wizard, mainly) in combination with you Egnater amps ?
Just curious.

I've got 2 412s loaded in X patterns of Govs and Pjs and I really don't see a need to change either but I do love the CL80/75 combo as I have 2 TM 212s loaded with them :D Egnater shit just sounds good

Never was a fan of Eminence speakers. All of them felt a bit too stiff for me. I always go back to Celestions ...tried Webers, Scumbacks, EV's, Eminence, etc. and Celestions always seemed to fit the bill best for me.

YMMV.

I tend to like Greenbacks, but would like higher-powered speakers for use in a 1x12 or 2x12 (I'm done with 4x12s), hence my interest on Eminence (or Scumbag btw).
Haven't much 1st hand experience with them though.
I like the G12K-100 on my Marshall 1x12 though. I gather it's the current favorite for many Egnater users ? What would you use with a Renegade for 80s rock (ala Van Halen, Toto, Bon Jovi and such) ?

we don't stuff it's unnatural!

Jeff:

sooo...what's the white stuff stapled on the inside of the back of my TM412's back panel?

Eric

This works great for bass cabs as it helps eliminate some of the resonance thus reducing rattles. However, in a guitar cab, you will lose a lot of brightness and will more than likely be disappointed with the results...
