Einie general question

I was at a gig and running really late (got a flat tire on the way there)
anyway in my haste i hooked up my rig and failed to plug my nanoverb in the effects loop. anyway i just went and plugged it in with my amp running (no standby) i noticed it made a small but funky sound when i made the connections. anyway again could this cause the amp to blow a tube or something cause after i did that she sounded really compressed and like there was a blanket over my cab.

I would say thats not a problem at all but i could be wrong. And if it is, it wouldnt make any sense to me as to how that would hurt something or damage the tubes..
