Is it safe to run the Einstein with lower voltage thru a variac? I`d like to get closer to the famous "Brown Sound" with that amp :D

Does this mean yes in German? :D

No :D
It just means that I may misunderstood the concept behind using a Variac.
Bato asked why I would want to use a variac and that the Einstein is no "non-master-marshall"

So my question is if a variac would work with amps that generate their sound in the preamp like the Einstein...?

Eddie used it to get a "hotter" sound. But his tech had to change the tubes after every gig.
I think you won´t like to change tubes every day?!

Mr. Diezel,

The voltage in my home studio (Central Texas) is 125 to 127 volts. I'm not so interested in the "brown sound" as I am not doing damage to my amp. I'm talking about running the variac at 117 volts, which is what my Mesa Boogie power amp & preamp are supposed to run at. Are your amps supposed to run at 117 volts or 120 volts? I'm wondering how many volts over the recommended voltage you feel that a tube amp can run without having to worry about causing damage to it.

You are a respected amp builder and certainly know more about this stuff than I do. I would value any insight that you can give on this.

L.o.L .I have a 100 Wtt einy.I don't play loud anymore.I did the variac thing with mine.Pappa knows best, that being said,by dropping voltage your tone thins out a lot.I've run mine down to about 96 volts witch is what EVH supposedly did.I.M.O it sucked.I ended up pulling 2 of the EL-34's.Note when doing this your impedance changes.IN the end it comes down to tubes, speakers, pups.Note:I have a Mesa/Boogie that I run also with 2 tubes pulled, when doing that the voltage jumps up,so I use the variac on that.

Thanks for the flowers :)

To run the amp with 117 volt is fine and good for tubes life.

With 110 volt You will hear a decrease of highs and volume.
