Ok, so I got my einstein back from a full retube servicing today, and WOW!
Ill start by saying...I am a mark IV/THD kind of guy. Im into organic, smooth overdriven tones for great lead work, very midrange heavy...at first, I wasnt getting that...but the more I played it I realized...a million amps can d that one sound, and be hard to tell apart...But the Einstein truly does have its own unique thing going on, an its far from my usual...but leagues above... For the first time in 15 years (and after tubeamp after tube amp) I can honestly say that the Einstein has character and voicing like NONE other...and that made me decide...Ok, its not what I was initially looking for, but it is in there, with its own thing...a thing that may instantly be my favorite tone EVER...Phenominal. Here we go.
Channel 1 mode 1 --- CLEAN!!! Bring the mids down to get a quarter spanky, funkyish rhythm clean, and toy with the treble to make it bouncy or boomy, bright or gloomy. The bass is ultra responsive and lends to texas style cleans, to darker instrumentally bogusly awesome cleans, and everything in between. Of all my amps, this is my favorite clean (I enjoy its versatility more so than my Mesa Lonestar). AWESOME CLEAN!!!
Channel 1 mode 2 --- Ok...this channel is a bit tricky...because you CANT get it to sound bad. It does a heavy rhythm to back up a solo PERFECT!!! It does mildy vintage smooth sex lead tone with ease, and does a furry bottomed mesa type thing...but cleaner. This mode absolutely rocks, SO much to do here. Back the gain down and its a barely overdriven clean. Or, crank the gain and get what I think a marshall SHOULD have done...a non-harsh, GREAT drive tone.
Channel 1 mode 3 --- hmm...Take a dual rectifier and make it smoother, or edgier, your choice...Take a jcm800 and make it heavier...or cleaner...Take the herbert channel 3 and put it in a smaller box. Incredible.
Channel 2 --- At first take, I was unimpressed with this channel, the gain was just WAY to hot for me...but as I played I realized...hey, Ive never heard a sound like this before...its not bad...its UNIQUE...and things started workin' for me...I have NEVER heard gain/tone like this. Its got harmonics that rivals steve vai's million dollar rig...Its got balls like John petrucci's million dollar rig...Its got attitude like zakk, and slinky sex-tone like andy timmons...It's all here, with a harmonic overtones that i have NEVER heard. It does have a heavy compression(12at7 will help) thats not in most amps which is hard to get used to, BUT...put a mic to it to record and its the cleanest recording ever...Or put it next to your buddy rig when you rock, and you sound tighter and cleaner. AMAZING.
NOw...the deep knob is great, does some INSANITY in the low end...The presence is the best presence knob Ive evered toyed with...It doesnt make your sound fizzy...it makes you PRESENT! perfect. Now, the whole time throuhg this amp, your guitar volume is SENSATIVE! On the lead channel with volume up, your in rip awesome mode...roll the volume down a quarter turn and your in buttery solo tone mode...another quarter tone and your in blues drive...a small turn more and your 100% clean...and still loud enough. In all mode's, it sounds like...DIEZEL...dont buy this is you want a mesa sound, or marshall sound, or fender. Buy this is youve been there and still seek further.
Guys at Diezel and Salwender...Thank you, after 6 tube amps, I think my search is done...only one test remains...I gotta make it cut through a midrtange heavy mark IV...can it be done? Any help maybe (if needed?).
