Hi All,

ive recently aquired an einstein (second one actually cause the first died within 3 days! not the best start! haha)
but having used my new one first the first time with my band last night, i could not hear myself unless turned up silly loud. im good at eq'ing too, so was bemused that i dint seem to have enough high mids on tap.

does anyone else have problems getting their einstein to cut through in a band mix on channel 1 mode 3. i only have the gain about 12-1 oclock which really is not quite enough but even at this level i have to have the mids, presence and trebble right up an bass rolled down for it to cut through. which is not ideal. it just really seems lacking high mids in a big way! far too much bass an low mids an higher notes, especially chords get lost. this is very frustrating and its not as if im using a crappy guitar or anything (Musicman axis supersport). I play through a Blackstar artisan 2x12 1/3rd open back can with v30's. i think when i can afford it ill be getting a rearloaded deizel 2x12 as this may offer more projection. i think im getting too much sound lost from the back of the cab at present that i almost need a more focused cab.

any thoughts would be welcomed.... regards, Tommy.

ive got a couple of tung sol gold pin 12ax7's so do you think they'll offer a slightly less compressed sound in channel one mode 3? i think its the compression thats killing it. texas mode sounds perfect apart from its not quite gainy enough for a tough of palm muting etc. i thought about boosting it with my xotic bb preamp.... thoughts?

What tubes are you using? (pre/power). I would try putting the recommended ruby EL34BHT power tubes and a ruby HG+ in v1. That makes a huge difference.

I don't recommend tung-sol as they make everything darker than it already is which is your issue.

If you're having trouble with compression it is likely due to hot output pickups? Also, I run my deep knob very low (sometimes 0). Keep in mind that chan 1 mode 3 will need a volume boost to cut through compared to chan 1 mode 2. How does chan 2 sound? does it cut? I use 412 vintage 30 cabinet. I have plenty cut if not too much. Boosting texas mode takes away from it's character. I have a BB, and i prefer just go adjust my amp between songs.

What are your settings for entire amp and what guitar / pups?

I've never had trouble with Einey cutting thru. Use chan 2 if you need more high mid cut.

Edit: Maybe your mids settings are too high and causing too much compression. I scoop mine a little. Most of your cut is going to be treble and presence knobs.. You have to lower the other knobs to get more in relation to other frequencies.

Good luck

Well, I play about 30-40 gigs a year. With 3 bands and different music styles. Never had problems with my Einstein. But remember one thing: don't use too small cabs on the stage.
Had a 2x12 cab with V30 and got problems with my sound everytime I used it. Couldn't hear it on stage, no mids, no bass only highs. So I switched back to a 4x12 Marshall cab and everything was fine again. If you rise up a 2x12, the cab begins to scream. Use a 4x12 and the sound is balanced. And you don't have to rise up the volume.
That's my experience - never play a 2x12 again. It doesn't come through.
Maybe it helps ... Chris

I agree cab will help probably, but try the other things I mentioned. I don't have problems with my 212 unless drummer drinks too many energy drinks that day.

my pickups are not that hot. more a hot paf.

settings wise, i ended up using texas mode with gain dimed, chan volume 1pm, trebble about 3pm, mids 3pm an bass about 9pm, presence dimed and low contour about 10pm. thats the only way i could hear all notes being played. ive never previously had problems with using this cab with other amps and certainly never had trebble up so hi. i sually have to roll it off cause of the v30's!
im running standard rubytube valves as the amp is brand new and unmodified.

regarding channel 2, i find that is even worse as far as compression is concerned and certainly not useable for heavy detailed chord work. im really hoping i havent made the wrong decision with the amp. kind thinking the vh4 might have better suited me, but i am a more organic sounds guy, hence going for the einstein.

so can anyone point me in the direction of making the amp sound a little brighter an uncompressed, right accross all channels really.... thanks.

also i have to say that ive always preferred 2x12's over 4x12's as, having admittedly only used marshall 1960 cabs and been less than impressed with them. terrible at cutting through in a band mix. 2 x 12's seem a little more focused which seems to help in a mix.

im going to try out the diezel cabs soon so hope that will help things but still feel like the amp is too dark.....

Wow. Sounds like something is up. Try it in a different cab if you can. Less compression in chan 2.. I use 12at7 in v2 preamp and gain at like 11:00. Try less mids. I start with all knobs noon. I usually end up with mids at 10:00 treble and bass slightly up or down and deep nearly off. You can also try a 12at7 in v1 maybe. Gain on Texas mode I use like 3:00 and in mode 3 11:00-noon. Also moving your cab may help. Chan 2 took a long time to figure out for me. actually it took me over a year to fully understand einey. Different cab will make it sound like a different amp. My einey cuts a little too much actually. Also try another guitar if you can to eliminate things.

yeah will have to spend some serious time with it to see what works. ill try some of your settings about an see if it helps. i dont have another guitar to try as sold em to fund the amp! haha but i know the guitar isnt an issue. it sounds awesome an has great string to string deffinition. lack of high mids is def my issue along with too much compression.

id like to try out different preamp tubes as its a cheap an easy fix compared to buying a new cab etc. will play about with cab placement too. can anyone recommend the best spots for open back cabs. middle of the room... up against a wall, corner of a wall etc.... my cab placement last night prob meant that a lot of the rear sound didnt get reflected forward as it would have bounced off a wall and gone round a corner so that prob didnt help.

Damn prescene dimes and treble at 3 o clock?!

I use my treble and prescience at noon and have no problems cutting with einy. Is is possible the frequency response of the other players is to blame? Is here another guitar player seriously abusing his highs and high mids? More clearly can ou cut trou the band when the other guy isn't playing?

i was thinkin it could be partly the other players sound focussing on the high mids. even still mine isnt anywhere near as punchy an prominant in the mids as id like

Hey... I' ve problems like you, too. When I turn up the volumen, it' s getting better. It may belong to the other frequencies, as our Guitarplayer has a Marshall Jcm 800 2204 throug a Ampeg/ Lee Jackson 412 with G12T-75 slanted with a PRS.
His Sound is very prominent, aggressive and always cuts me off, even with my Diezel 412 Frontloaded. I tried different cabs and in fact I found nothing better. I would say I havn't even had a chance, neither with a Diezel Rearloaded 412 nor a Mesa Recto Standard OS. I liked it with my 212 with v30 from Tubetown. And... I could hear myself. Now in my other Band I tried my Eini through my Marshall Ax modified with different Frontbaffle and a much stronger resonance Block inside. I mixed very old G12-75 with v30. I definitly got a huge defined Rocksound. I boost Ch1 Mode 2 with Gain on 13. Sometimes For this I take a Bad Monkey, mostly a Box of Rock Clone. I play a Gibson Explorer And a Gibson Les Paul Gold Top. The other guy plays a Marshall Jcm 800 2210 Combo with a Les Paul Standard.

I really like the Einis versatility and his huge defined sound. But in a band, especially with Marshallsounds, or Amps played with much Highs it cab be difficult to cut through. But played live, and a bit louder, the ssssssoouunndd rises up and everything else around the Eini descends...

Maybe we both should alter our Eqs or dime the Mv ;)

I put a couple of Weber beam blockers on my 2x12 and I have no issues with hearing the amp at any volume.

Try the mitchell speaker directivity modifier. Kills the beam blockers and doesn't cause weird phasing. Google it!

thanks! just found the info on that so will def give it a try! :)

Thats amazing... nearly weird. When I play the Eini live ob Stage, it definitly rocks my ass, and I haven't got any problems with cutting through. When I play at our room, where we use to meet for practice, the Eini is beaten down by everything else. Okay, as above-mentioned, I turn up the Volumen a bit. But not that much. When I put a mikrophone in front, the signal is too scratchy. So i switched to Sennheiser e906. Now it' s a bit more open sounding.
Peter, what am I doing wrong? May it depend on the position of my cab square to a rooms' corner? OT is it anything else?
Best wishes, Volker

Pulled my stack from the corner to the straight wall. Now I can hear a lot more of myself playing. We also turned the Eq while playing together with the other guitar player. Strange: turning down the Mids from about 13 to 10,5 improves my sound. I' ve been always like : turn up, turn up, more mids. But perhaps the Eini got a lot at his own voicing? By the way, the Highs and Bass weren' t changed. I cut through well, but with less Fizz. I tried a Marshall AV and checked it with my Diezel Fc. The Marshall so unds a bit treble- like, almost screaming, but couldn't beat the Diezel, though it sounds not bad, more common...
