On my Einstein (which I love BTW) I have an issue when using my clean channel mode one where my bridge pickup seems to clip the clean signal when played hard. It makes no difference where the channel gain is set at, it still occurs and is not real pleasing to the ears. Guitars are all John Suhrs with either Aldrich or SSH+ pickups which are fairly high output. All other pickups or combi's are fine as their output is significantly less. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, can anyone tell me besides the std V1 is used on all channels, V2 is channel two and V3 is used in all modes channel one what specific tubes halves are used for what modes in channel one? It would be great to assist the gain shaping between the three modes as I do use the mode remote switching mode. Thanks

We have no low input on the amp. A strong pickup
will distort the input tube. We are not the only
manufacture without low input and don´t want
to design the amp in this way.

Don´t hit the strings very hard or turn down
the guitar volume.

Thanks,

Peter

Thanks very much Peter, that's what I thought. Let me ask, would a lower gain V1 tube do any good with this? Also, can you tell me what tube would best affect the drive levels in mode two and three of channel one? Thanks as always for the informative response.

To be honest, I never tried a 12AT7 or 12AU7
tube on the input and don´t know how much input
voltage these tubes need before get distorted.
Let me check out this tomorrow morning.

Thanks Peter, I'll await your findings. Also I'd still like to know specifically where to put low or high gain tubes to affect/influence the second 2 modes in channel one (Texas/Mega), V1, V3 etc. Thanks very much!

Einstein tube layout:

V1 Used by both channels
V2 Used by channel 2
V3 Used by both channels
V4 Mixer & Loop Driver
V5 Return Driver
V6 Phase Inverter

I tried a 12AT7-C in the input stage today.

It has a bit less input distortion but it lacks
for response on the gain channels.

Next problem is to find a non microphonic
type.

The only solution to use a 30k high gain
humbucker for clean is to turn down the
volume on the guitar.

i have no problems on my einstein.
for example.
i use a Ibanez RG 1527 ( 7 string ) with SD Bklackouts, no problem if the gain is round about 11 o'clock.
My Kramer Pacer Custom 1 with EMG 81, no clipping and the same with my other guitars.

perhaps you have to check the space between the pickups and the strings?!?!?!

You could implement a split coil or parallel switch in your guitar, that would also bring down the output and might just do the trick for you.

For myself I use only single coil for clean.
If I split the SH6 set it´s about 6 to 8k.

My teles and strats have 10k PU´s and
sound awesome on clean and crunch.

Thanks for trying. I will experiment in V1. Seems if I roll vol down just a touch it removes the distortion so that may be the only way. If I implement my Keeley compressor of course that works as well. I was just wondering if there was a way to raise the headroom just a bit. Thanks Peter for checking it out and letting us know your findings.
