Tonight the reverb went on my Einstein. After doing a little searching through the forum, it looks like V7 probably needs to be swapped out.

I was just wondering if any of the other pre-amp tubes factor into the reverb or is it just strictly V7?

Thanks,

you can easy test it:
replace V7 with V5, do it work now ?
change the tube back and replace the V7 with a new 12AX7/ECC83

I ran to GC today and picked up a new 12AT7. I installed it in V7, but unfortunately still no reverb.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the next step should be in trying to debug this?

Thanks,

Update:

Did a little Googling on Reverb Tanks. Some of the common problems I saw had to do with broken contacts or a broken spring.

Hoping that the problem would be something trivial like that, I removed the reverb tank from the Einstein. Upon visual inspection, all of the contacts and the three springs looked good. The only thing of interest that I found was that one of the screws fastening the tank to the bottom of the amp was missing. I later found it stuck to the bottom of the speaker(magnet).

Now it is starting to look like a bit more of a serious problem.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I finally got around to bringing the Einstein in to get looked at. I brought it over to Fuchs http://www.fuchsaudiotechnology.com/ to get checked out.

The problem was just a bad reverb cap. The bad cap also toasted the new tube I had just put in, oh well. Andy replaced the cap and tube, and now the Einstein is as good as new. :)

Since the Einstein was on the workbench anyway, I also had Andy do the channel 1 mod. Now I am just waiting for my custom switch to arrive this week.

BTW - If anyone needs a good amp tech in the NY/NJ area, I can highly recommend Fuchs. They do good work and just seem to be all around good people.
