I've recently purchase a used 100w Einstein head and notice a tonal/gain difference and significant volume difference between master 1 and master 2. Is this normal or is it possible that one pair of my power tubes are unevenly worn? It is a 2008 model with original EL34 power tubes and overall the amp kicks butt!

The individual I bought it from used it pretty much in a studio situation as I understand, so I'm not sure how it was typically used. It's not that I can't live with it or adjust the master 1/2 knob to balance or achieve a volume differnce kicking in a different master for the remaining life of the power tubes, but was curious and wondering if other Einstein users have experienced this with master 1/2 and if this was normal? Every other amp I've owed with 2 master volumes were not this extreme.

You say the amp has the same tubes in it? Amps are like a machines, and things wear out (like the tubes) so it would be best to have it retubed. Then it will be easier to trouble shoot the amp to pin point the problem. But hopefully the volume issue will be gone after doing so. You might blown away by the amp again, like having a fresh new Einstein!

Pots can be different, should we send a new one ?

completely normal, don't worry about it. it has nothing to do with tubes, but a new set never hurts.

Thanks for your input. I don't see it as a problem at this point, but I will replace the power tubes in the near future. :)
