hey all im thinking of putting some 2 6l6s with 2 6550s in my einstein i was reading in the manual that you can swap out pairs of tubes for others ie el34 6l6 kt88 etc. i know i will need to bias the 6l6s as 6550s run a lot hotter . just making sure that i can use 2 6l6 and 2 6550 and it will be ok whilst im waiting for my ruby el34bht valves to come from a supplier and been waiting 3 weeks already!

I have been using two 6550 and two el34 for a while in mine.

is it always 1 2 2 1 (vh4, einstein) or 1 2 3 3 2 1 (herbert) for the pairing?

Yes and no.

vh4 is a matched quad. ( X X X X ) No pairing a full quad is needed.

vh4s (stereo) I'm unsure. Ask V or someone.

Einey 50 watt is ( X X )

Einey 100 watt is ( X Y Y X ) and Herbie ( X Y Z Z Y X)

Schmidt follows these same guidelines I'm sure.

I prefer not to use numbers for pairing because officially they're numbered 4 3 2 1 and 6 5 4 3 2 1 (from the rear left to right).

ok thanks guys. turns out ,my supplier didnt even bother getting the rubys in so ive cancelled the order, anyone know where i can get rubys from in the uk???? hotrox and watford valves dont stock them so may have to go for another brand.
Einstein users what el34s are good for the einstein non ruby???
