I have had my 100W Einy head about a month and I'm getting to know it pretty well. I haven't gigged with it yet, but I look forward to the first try mid jan.
I have been prettty happy with my Crate Red Voodoo 120W top. I have read mixed reviews on this amp, but for me it has worked well. It isn't really versatile as the Einy, one great sound. After several hours with the Einstein I set up both amps switchable and compared them like for like at the same volume. They do have their distinctly different voices, and as wonderful as the Einy is, there is a compressed quality in the Crate that I was missing with the Einy.
The real revelation was playing them together. Incredible sound. Easily the best I've played. I used the Crate 4*12 V30 cab, which can be stereo switched so each amp got its speaker pair. I play with a lot of gain and I set the Crate up for a good fat higain rythm and let it stay there. The Einy on ch1 pos 2 with gain at 3 o'clock as rythm, and ch2 on 10 o'clock for a fat lead tone. It works perfectly. Looks a bit silly though to run one 4*12 cab on two 100W heads. Even stupider to bring a friggin fork lift of equipment to a gig.
C-4, I will now try to swap around pre tubes in the Einy. From what I understand my taste is more higain than yours, but with the amount of saturation possible in the Einy I think 12Au7's will do the trick and may give me a warmer tone.
Cheers guys
