So im thinking about buying an einstein now. I also obviously still have a Herbert which i love! First: Are the sounds KIND OF similar or completely different?
and Secondly: With the Herbert, even though its 3 channels, its like having 12 tonal choices because of midi and Volume 1, Volume 2, and mid cut. Is the einstein gonna have anything similar to this for me? Either tonally speaking or volumewise?
I need to have Clean, Rythym, and Lead boost.
I want the eini for small gigs and as a back up too. It looks like its a lot lighter than the herbert!!

Einstein is a bit (just a bit) looser than Herbie. Clean is clean, Texas is a beautiful crunchy sound, mega the typical Diezel roar and a creamy/singing lead channel. Its not so much lighter (weight) than Herbert though, probably 3-4 Kilos or so.

I used a Herbert as my main amp and an Einstein for smaller gigs ;)

My Einstein believe it or not weights the same or even a few kilos more than my VH4

For me, I loved the Einstein, but I felt my Herbert covered pretty much the tones I liked best about it, so I sold it. I think the VH4 is the way to go if you want another Diezel because it is more different from the Herbert than the Einstein is IMO.

That being said, now that I own the VH4 and Herbert, it would be cool to also get the Einstein and Schmidt.

What are your thoughts on my other questions though.? Only 2 channels/volumes? Even with FS?

Yep, doesn't have the switching capabilities that a Herbert has. The footswitch only has channel switching and master 1 / 2. The amp can be modified though to switch modes via a footswitch.

Get the Olaf Mod so you can footswitch the Modes in ch.1

and if you wanna go even further, get a Midi switching box, something like Nobels MS4 and make the Einstein Midi switchable that way you can program the modes to come at different volumes (with midi commands) and you'll have them all at even volumes. That's what I'm doing..

You could do it if you do the channel one switching mod. Otherwise maybe do clean on channel one, channel 2 rhythm with lower gain then use an OD pedal for a boost for lead.

Im interested. But how much is this mod? I guess i have to send it off?

Actually ive heard through HC that these amps have a second master volume for lead boosts. Is this true? If so, this covers my issues.

yes. there are 2 master volumes - choosing between the two is a footswitch function.
