I've owned an Einstein combo for some time... and been very, very happy with it for many reasons but especially as I can play this amp at home, in the studio and at small gigs, and get such a wide range of tones.

My dilemma is that I need to often play in the realms of Pantera, Ektomorf.... type death metal gain and the Einstein combo is not quite getting there. I'm sure this is due to it being a combo with an open back???

So, my thoughts were sell the combo and buy a Einstein head and 212 front loaded cab. Will the cab make all the difference and get me to the Ektomorf tone? Or do I need to think of doing something else? Or can I do anything to the Einstein to get me that bit extra?

Just for info I have a Schmidt on its way with the Hemp cone 212R cab that will cover everything but my ultra heavy gain material.

What are your thoughts?

Not sure about Ektomorf, cause I never listened to them, but the Einstein, in my oppinion, cannot do Pantera, no matter what cab and guitar you use. In general I feel that the Einstein can't do fast stuff. The upper mids are dry, as all Diezels, but the lower ones are very rich and smooth. It is very appropriate for heavy grinding stuff, not for fast cutting riffs. And that's exactly what I love about it :)

yeah I sort of wondered if this would be the case :aww: No problem with low heavy grinding stuff at all with the Einstein.. may be I ned to widen my amp search.

You could probably get good results with an additional cab and a bit of pre- and post EQ.
