I was playing last night and everything was fine. Then suddenly I heard a slowly rising boomy sound and then the amp went dead quiet. Before I start testing tubes, I was wondering if anyone has a gut feel for what the culprit is.

Several months ago I had a similar problem, but then the next day the amp was working fine again. That is not the case this time. In any case, any thoughts are appreciatied.

thanks,

brian

Tube Fault LEDs on or not?
Guitar into serial return - works or not?

The Einstein doesn't have the tube fault LEDs. Not mine anyway. Just tried the serial return and no output.

The fuse is blown. Not sure what to do. I don't want to just replace the fuse because what if there is an underlying problem that made the fuse blow? Can a bad tube cause tubes to blow like that? Or could it be that something is getting shorted out occasionally? My main concern is to ensure that the amp is working in a reliable state. Not sure how best to determine that.

thanks,

brian

Probably caused by a bad tube, Brian.
Is it a 50s or 100s Einstein?

It is the 50W combo amp. I think it is 50 anyway...

Well then its time to get at least 3-5 spare fuses, make a test with the fresh fuse and the old power tubes and probably getting a blown fuse again, so time for a fresh set of power tubes (with a new fuse of course).

Good luck Brian.
