I just had a pair of ruby EL 34’s go bad on my 100 watt Einstein. Blew two fuses in a row, so I’m fairly certain they’re done. Anyway, I keep hearing about guys who love the KT88, And so it’s peaked my curiosity. I’m thinking about replacing the two inner tubes with KT88’s, and keeping the EL 34’s in the outer slots.
My Einstein has the external bias points, and I’m familiar with how to bias tubes. The question is, will I be able to bias the larger KT88 without running out of voltage, or will my Einstein require an internal modification to make it work? Can the transformer handle the KT88s?
If anyone is familiar with running the EL34 with KT88, I’d love to hear about it. I’m more of a heavy 80s metal guy, and love the Diezels unique twist in that genre. Any other suggestions for tube combinations wouldl be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
