I received my Einstein in January this year. A few weeks ago at rehearsal I heard a sissling noice after playing for like 2 hours. First i thought there was something wrong with my TC Electronic Nova System in the serial loop because when I pulled out the cables from the serial loop the noice stopped. Same thing happend the next rehearsal a week later. I then pulled out the cables from the serial loop and replaced them with a patch cable and the noice was still present. Might be a faulty V4 or V5 tube, so I took the amp home and replaced V5 with a Mullard ECC83 that I had at home. No more noice! By the way; it was impossible to pull out the tube with my cotton gloves but it worked fine when I tried with rubber gloves!

Now, my question: Is it OK to replace the original V5 with a Mullard ECC83 or do you know where to buy an original (but not faulty!) tube?

In other Diezels, ie VH4's or Herberts, etc. the use of a TAD7025S in key sockets is highly recommended, the 12AX7B or C's are good elsewhere. Tung Sol 12AX7's are pretty golden too. Don't have to be stuck on one piece of glass - mix and match. Shuguang 12AX7 B's or C's are cheap and choice as well...

Peace,
V.
