Does anyone know a trick to do it with this setup? As you can see the battery runs straight to the pickups. ?

The existing ground should run to the output jack. Remove it from the jack and connect that one to the positive of the new battery and the negative from the new battery to it's old place on the output jack. Looks like you have room in your cavity. You may possibly be able to remove the battery box and fit two in sideways but then you'll need to figure out how to cover/hold them in place. GL!

I have room, but I'd have to run wires between the current battery box to the cavity and back because the box is right next to the output jack. The hole is too small at the moment, not sure how to enlarge. Am I thinking about this right?

In the second picture think about the battery on the right as the one you have already installed and the wire coming from the negative already going to the jack. All you need to do is disconnect it from the jack and connect it to the positive of the added battery and the negative of the new battery to the jack. 30 second mod, really. You shouldn't need to run it back to the battery or pickups for any reason, if that makes sense. I am assuming from your picture (kind of hard to make out) that the solo black wire in your cavity running to the jack is the one you're after.

Edit: I would just put the second battery in the control cavity wrapped in a piece of foam or similar.

In order to do that, won't I need to run the positive from the new battery in the cavity to the current box, and the negative of the new battery from the cavity to the jack?
that the solo black wire in your cavity running to the jack is the one you're after.
That is coming off the tone pot and presumably going to the sleeve ground, not battery ground, correct? Is there some way to use this?

The negative wire from your existing battery should be coming directly from the battery to the control cavity. It shouldn't go to the pickup cavities for any reason other than if there is no route hole for it. I would think you should be able to splice the new battery in from the jack/pot/control cavity.

Errr... wait a second, I'm a dumbass. The output jack on your V is near the battery not in the control cavity :ROFLMAO:. Sorry, my misunderstanding/miscommunication. An old guitar string can help feed the new wire, everything else is accurate. You'll probably want to store your new battery in the control cavity, pull the wire from the output jack and feed it into that cavity and then back to the output jack. A bit more than a 30 second job. Sorry.

Brought my guitar to life dude. I was always 50/50 on emg’s until I tried it. Amazeballs for me. And it plugs into your 9 volt terminal like a regular 9v….
Snake Oil! Jk.
I'll have to try this. Been satisfied with 18v, but no reason not to evolve. Ever A/B the two mods?

Thanks for clarifying. I might need to make the hole between the cavity and box bigger. I'm with you that I'm totally satisfied with my 18v 81 in the bridge, to the point I can't imagine anything better... But I might just try it given the constraints. I'm with @JackBootedThug , didn't even like my emgs until I did the 18v. Also considering an SD ABH-2 as an alternative.

I've been rocking the ABH-1 set in one of my 7 strings. Didn't notice any difference when I tried the 18v mod (not that it was your implied intent, specifically). After reading about it, apparently SD says no effect... I dunno. Can't say for the ABH-2, but not super impressed with my blackouts. Not bad, but reminds me of the equivalent of studio monitors in that they do what they do without any character/nuances if that makes sense. YMMV. GL with your quest!

Yeah, I have those in the jackson right now. Better than the emg's at 9v, but nothing like the 81 at 18v, to my ears anyway. Sammy Duet rocks the ahb-2. I trust him and like his tone, so that's the motivation, but I don't really hear many people talking about them otherwise. Thanks!

I think I got mine off fleabay for maybe 25 bucks shipped….with batteries of course. It was literally like flipping a switch as soon as I installed it. Almost like swapping out cheap ass Duncan designed garbage pups and putting in a custom 5 and 59….

Got the 24v mod. Doesn’t seem much different than the 18v to my ears, but it’s different guitar so I’m estimating a little. Either way, it works! Thanks for the suggestion party people ???

Dang @JackBootedThug , where’d Funk’n’ metal go?! Bummer
