Anyone tried both? I just put a 85 in my guitar after using a 81 for the last 15 years and BAM! what a difference, I can actually hear everything I'm playing now. I'm digging the 85 but wonder how different a Duncan Metal Livewire ( not the new Mustaine model) would sound...

Bump...I'd be very interested in hearing opinions on this. I have EMG 81/85 in a Les Paul of mine and love them...getting a Sonex for a back-up, and I want to put actives in it. I was planning on getting EMG's, but I found some Livewires for a REALLY good price...

How do they compare?

How good of a price? I can hook you up with an EMG 81/89 set with all the pots soldered and wired up, 18v / 9v mod, coil split on the 89 and all the manuals you'll need for $100 shipped ;)

Check out those new Blackout Active pickups, ZAO here at the boards says he likes his quite a bit.

Oh man.. I wish I had $100. The 89 is like a coil splitable 85 isn't it? I just sold my 85/60 on here a month ago or so for $100.. and now I need some pups!
