Dear guys,

we had a lot of tube issues during the last year. So I was on the
search for good sounding and reliable tubes. Sometimes I was a
bit confused and had the idea swap over to different suppliers.
After testing a hundred of pieces we will go for the following tubes
and the supplier is Tom of Magic Parts:

Preamp tubes:
V1, V2 Shuguang 12AX7C5 HG+
V3 to V6 or V7 Shuguang 12AX7C5 Selected

Power tubes:
EL34BHT, new tube from Shuguang

The 12AX7WA from Sovtek on V1 deliver a better clean and less
agressive lead tone.

I think this will be the standart over the next years,
Peter

how does the sound these EL34BHT's compare to svetlana's EL34 winged "C"s?

Don´t get my wrong, SED´s are first class.
The Shuguang have nice midrange let You feel
better in the band contest.

sounds good. you're the man peter. ;)

I spoke with some folks representing Magic Parts in the States, and I know that Doug over @ Doug's Tubes has ordered the EL34BHTs, so if anyone is looking into them, I can recommend Doug to you.

I would be buying them myself, except I just bought a full set of 6 winged C EL34s from him last month. Incidentally, I did try some new Ruby 6L6s too (my Herbert came stock with them), but preferred the EL34s.

Next time around, I'll check out the BHTs for sure. I may go with Peter's pre recommendations though.

Thanks Peter, for keeping us posted, as usual.

Goody :) I have few spare ones of these. Will try it in my Einstein.

Hey Peter what are the sound diffrences between the SED El34's and the EL34BHT's? I had just ordered a quartet of the SED's. You think I should send em back and get the El34BHT's?

Thanks

No man! Get your SED´s! You´ll love them! Give them a try!

I know it´s not an easy descision which tubes to use as standard. Both tubes (the EL34B-STR and the SED´s) sound great. ( I did´nt have the chance yet to check out the new EL34BHT's. )

That´s the good thing on tube amps: We can work on our sound by changing tubes!

Ever tried some old valvos 45° Getter? (good for olskool boys like me! )

Thanks for that info Peter. I did try the 12AX7WA in V1 for less breakup on the clean. I still have to keep the gain control fairly low. Lower than I'd like to match the other channel's volumes. Unfortunatley the Clean's Channel volume control itself is not much help in that area.
Is there any mod that could be done to effect only the Clean channel's gain?
I would like less breakup. Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated. Joel

No, don't. SEDs went in my Einstien a few months ago and they couldn't sound better! I haven't tried the Shuguang tubes but the SEDs are fantastic.

I just got the SED's in my newly fixed amp and I gotta say, they sound delicious. Havent tried the BHT's.
