Hey everyone,
I have both the ENGL Fireball 25 and Ironball Special Edition. I did some videos on these amps already but I've gotten some requests to make a comparison. I was also quite interested in that, just to see how different they really sound. As it turns out they definitely sound unique, not to mention the differences between the features.
In short: The Fireball 25 is a more "simple" amp with 2 channels, clean and lead. It has no reverb but it has a gate and the mid boost switch. This amp does feature the ENGL power soak which can be very handy to have! This amp has 2 6L6 tubes in the powersection. It has a good amount of headroom for a 25w "lunchbox" amp, that's for sure! The sound is weighty, dirty and fat. That makes this amp ideal for rock and metal.
The Ironball SE has more features than the FB25. The basic layout of the channels and EQ is almost the same but the tone is different. The Ironball has a more tight bottom end with a more articulate and focused midrange. Great for proggy stuff and metal in general. Extra features on this amp include the gain boost, master volume boost, reverb, delay, IR loader, headphones out, built-in power soak. It has 2 EL84s and so with it's lower wattage it has a little bit less headroom.
I talk about the differences and showcase the differences in tone with clean, crunch and heavy tones in this video. I hope someone gets something out of this. I surely enjoyed making this!
