A good friend of mine now swears by Engl preamp tubes. Says they are richer sounding than any others he has tried. Anyone try these and really like them? Not sure I want to waste my money on more preamp tubes. I have a drawer full!

You realize Engl does not make tubes? I'd find out what brand they are so you don't have to seek out the actual Engl labeled ones. Not to say they aren't fine tubes, just that somebody else makes them and Engl tests and puts their name on them.

Hi Bruce, yes...I know they do not make the tubes and I would love to know who makes them. A good friend of mine who I trust loves them so I am curious.

Mesa also does that. They test tubes and find the ones up to their "standards".

Do you have one to look at? It's either a JJ, a Sovtek variety, or a Chinese.

I still think the stock Sovteks in V2 of the modules sound the best to me, for sure. Then I just swap out V1 depending on what I'm looking for.

Hey Bruce - is V2 in the modules a "Cathode follower"? (whatever the hell that means). Because word is you can't use TungSol Reissues in cathode follower spots... any info on this?
