Kirk is turning into too much of a Breadfan lately. He can keep this Greedy Epiphoney.
I prefer the Kirk Greeny over say, a Kirk Hammett signature Paul Reed Smith.

I tried one at a store (no interest) and it feels like plastic.
I like lacquer, but I also like the plastic. It's tough. It can get wet. It can handle the cold winters and hot summers without turning into gum. Makes a good gigging guitar.

I hate that they make those and the John Bonamassa Lazarus fucking piss yellow.

I dislike washed out orange guitars already. But fucking piss yellow is too much.

I had an Epiphone 1959 that felt great. That finish does play great. I didn't own mine enough or play it enough so that it started glossing up bad, so I don't know how those are in the long-run.

I'm a huge Metallica fan and I love that Kirk has the Greeny, but I just don't get the Epiphone Greeny idea. Kirk isn't known for playing the Greeny, it is a guitar he happened to get and uses now. I mean is anyone playing Master of Puppets out of phase???

I get that they are putting a more affordable version of the guitar into people's hands but I just don't think Kirk fans have been dying for this guitar. Do an Epiphone V that was dragged thru the audience after he held it above them. That is iconic.

Honestly, I think he's hoping the endorsement funds will offset the ridiculous price he paid for it.

They did release a purple and the black Epiphone V a few weeks ago. He's been seen on stage playing the Ephone V and the Greeny epiphone recently which is cool, but strongly doubt they will be in the regular rotation. Likely just marketing to bring attention to them while it's fresh. It's cool to bring a more moderately priced instrument to another demographic of fans who may not have the access or funds to the higher end models.

When you say Kirk's guitar, I think of this (it even says so on it):

I don't like the bright, even yellow finish - to me it doesn't look anything like Greeny, or even the completely faded unbursts.

Some of these might be great guitars, though Epiphones seem to vary more from one to another than Gibsons do.
Their build quality is pretty consistent but the wood in some of 'em can be a bit dodgy.
I don't expect that all of these will be glorious players.

That said, I applaud Epi's attempts to upgrade their brand in general. Just saying this model isn't for me.

It strikes me that this yellow is the color they should be using on their korina series, instead of the usual pale brown.
I'm glad to learn Gibson is allowing the correct headstock shape; perhaps also loosening up their policy on other cosmetic similarities.
Hopefully now Epi can start making korina Vees & Explorers that actually look like the real ones.

Am I the only one that doesn't get the Greeny "thing?" I mean, I understand the guitar's provenance, but so what? It was owned by a guy that got kicked out of one of the biggest bands of all time before they got big, then went to another guy who founded Thin Lizzy but then left after a very short stint and then was mainly a solo artist, and now it's owned by one of the biggest guitarists of all-time who never used Les Pauls during his most influential decades. There's many more LP's that have been on many more recordings that have sold many more records. It just seems like a ton of marketing hype ("hyping the hype?") over a guitar that, yes, is famous; but, I find it hard to believe that every Joe the Plumber out there is buying into that hype enough to warrant so many versions of this guitar. Just my two cents.

This is nothing pricewise for Epi.

The limited to 1,965 guitars, Epiphone John Lennon 1965 Casino went for over $3K new. I sold mine for over $3K, but paid closer to $2K new. Mine was the original finish, others in the limited run were the stripped down "Revolution" model in natural. Not sure how many of each finish were made?
