Just curious as to if anyone here has gotten something similar to Eric Johnsons "cliffs of dover" tone out of their Herbert and what their settings were.
Im trying to get it to sound alot warmer but im just not getting it down for some reason. Do you thing the secret is in majorly boosting the mids. Its just too bright.

check this Rob, the compression is directly related in the channel volume, more ch volume =more compression. def something to keep in mind for striving for an EJ type of bloom on the notes. second thing run treble down like 10 o clock mids up like 2:30 maybe even as high as 3 bass at noon. Now that you have those mids up set your mid cut on on intensity low like 8:30 now level on mid cut 12:30. you should be dealing with a fairly dark tone at this point and should be close. now you have to cut through the mix of the band so your presence will have to rise if your not sutting. i typically have mine at like 1:00/1:30 and deep at noon. keep in mind i have an anderson with humbuckers going through a herbert into a v 30 cab. that is a very non EJ setup so with that in mind you have to adjust things around your hands, guitars, pickups etc. ya know? and different cabs play a MASSIVE role in how herbert sounds. i really didnt like my v 30 cab at first, very ice pick but after 8 monthes of hard touring and sessions it has now warmed up and souds GREAT. i hope i was of some help

Really?! NICE! I soo hope that is true because thats what im gonna mess with. I usually keep channel volumes at noon. What do you set your channel volume at?
My other settings are kinda like yours but possibly a little darker. Gain at 2:30 Bass at 12:30 Mids at 2:00 (but ima try 3:00 hoping that wont make it sound harsh), and treble at 9:00. my master vol 1 is at 10:30, master 2 at 11:30 , presence at 9:00 (because i thought it would make it less harsh, but its almost like a volume knob), and deep at 11:00.

Im also noticing that my rig doesnt seem to work to well with delays and verbs. I dont know why. Im running the prophecy into the serial loop. My levels of delay and verb arent that high either. I think what it is, is that the louder you turn up the more you notice delays and reverb. Its almost as if a volume boost creates a level boost in effects. Perhaps i ought to program my tones at higher volumes.

def reprogram your rig for higher volumes! also i dont use any verb on my lead tone, that way i can get it darker but it still cut through. dont be afraid of turning presence up, this is not like boogie presence! i had a mark iv ran presence off, the diezel presence doesnt seem to affect the same harsh frequencies as boogie presence. also i love my lead tone compressed so i put channel 3 volume up there like 2 o clock, that way it feels nicer for leagato, guthrie, greg howe kinda stuff. let me know how that works for ya! also is that live video clip i posted close to what your after? let me know and i will try to help you as much as i can!
