What a killer weekend for sure man!!! Drove about 860 miles this weekend. 330 from San Jose -> Oxnard area to visit Jason...95 miles to visit Tone Merchants in LA...and 95 back..... Then 330 back to San Jose today. So that's like 860 miles!!!!
Was a beautiful drive down the 101 for sure. Not boring, or tiring whatsoever. The mountains are beautiful all the way down.
Just arrived back into my hotel room in San Jose, and am glad to rest for the evening after a long, but GREAT weekend.
So...onto the festivities... LOVED Jason's Mod100. I picked up Brad's Mod100 and it'll be on the way. Jason and I jammed on it for a long time w/ 6550s and E34L's...and just 6550's only. Man...that amp was amazing. There definitely is something that has tons of mojo w/ it. Mod50 sounds great too...as did his RT2/50.
What also grabbed my attention was playing Peter Thorn's own CAE PT100. Peter let me jam on it before we left, and it was definitely bitchin!!!! Owned the CAE SE+3, and that PT100 smoked it IMHO. I'm definitely gas'ing for one of those after January NAMM
What the coolest part of jamming on his amp, is that Peter was "dialing the knobs" in while I was playing....And he even told made the comment..."Man you're a good player too!" I was like...woah...that's killer to get a genuine comment from someone like Peter. What a friggin day. From jamming with Jason, to meeting Andy Wood, to meeting Peter Thorn, to meeting with John Suhr...what a killer day!!!
Sat and talked to John Suhr for about 30-40 minutes, and that was awesome. Didn't know what the blower switch, or the "push push" pot on the tone to put the bridge bucker in parallel...which is what Andy Wood has on his..and it's killer. Gets that "tele" tone in a Suhr Modern. John said I could ship back my Pro Modern, and they'd do that for me on just my Pro!!! What customer service!!!
I'll tell ya though...The Egnater stuff definitely stands up with everything else I played at Tone Merchants. Played the Bogner Twin Jet...and wasn't impressed. The Bogner Ecstacy was amazing though.. My Jeff modded-XTC Blue module definitely was similar, but definitely better IMHO. Has a similar tone / vibe...but the Jeff-modded XTC module has more clarity...and punch IMHO. What I was most impressed w/ the Ecstacy was the clean channel!!!
The only amp that stood on par w/ the Eggie was the PT100. For just a "2-channel type" amp...damn that thing is awesome. There's no changes I'd make to it tonally. I'm excited to see the newer design they'll have at NAMM.
Definitely has me also gassing for another Suhr guitar though too. Would love a modern w/ mahogany, or a "Tele style" similar to Peter's. Got to play it too...and it felt AWESOME!!! His guitar had the blower switch on it too...and that's just so damn cool.
All in all...it was a AMAZING weekend. I LOVED it. Thanks again Jason for your hospitality. Jason is a class act, and is a great guitar player too. Don't let him fool ya!!!
