I've been seeing the ads for the ES-339 for awhile now and I've read the Gibson hype. Now that it's been out for awhile, who has one and what do you think...especially compared to an ES-335?

I got one for Christmas 2007 and really like it alot. I play it all the time and and am getting used to the semihollow body vibe after all this time. It won't do what my hardtail Strat can do with the single coils but its got great Gibson thump IMHO. It took a while for me to work out the clean tones but now I know where to strum etc to get what I want sound wise. The build quality seems perfect to me. The size is very cool and most people think its a 335. I never played a ES-335 so I can't make a comment on one to another but all say its the same but smaller. I am 100% pleased with the ES-339 and will keep it forever. Mine is translucent red with a black pickguard. The only drawback for me, as I have really small hands is I can't do volume swells due to the location of the pots. Otherwise its a keeper. Hope that helps.

Pretty much my favorite guitar I own at the moment.....freaking awesome. Very versatile, can play pretty much anything, and does the controlled feedback at will.

Best value Gibson has in any new instrument. It's way closer to a 335 than the 336's are, but its small and comfortable like a slightly bigger Les Paul. Some have experienced QC issues - mine showed up just perfect in every respect.

The feedback is interesting when really cranked. I played my hardtail Strat every week for all of 2007 until I got the ES-339. Now I use both side by side. The Strat will never be topped for that crisp country twang but I gotta admit the Gibson is giving it a run for the money. A good place to put $1,700 if you are a collector or just got to have a semi hollow. No GC problems on mine.

I spoke to my guitar tech, Nick Bucci, today and asked him what he thought about the 339. This guy is a great tech and a killer player. He's been in "the busines" for over 30 years. I asked him if money was NOT an issue which would he pick...an ES-335 or an ES-339. Without hesitation he said he would pick the 339. In his opinion it sounds like and ES-335 but plays better and is easier to handle because of the size. In fact, he's trying to get Gibson to spring for one at cost since he's a Gibson authorized repair tech/center.

Between him and you guys...I'm starting to get...GAS!!!

By the way, if you're in or near Delaware and need a great guitar tech, check out Nick Bucci...his website is:

I'm just over the state line in PA. I think the ES-339's will go up in price in no time. They will be close to ES-335 prices as soon as the word gets out. Buy now while they are under 2K.

They look nice, but I remember one guy at HCEG getting multiple duds from MF. Then again thats not much of a surprise from a company thats apparently still moving into a new warehouse  I really like the concept, but they're kinda pricey compared to some of the other options ie Heritage, old Ibanez's, Eastman

Yeah, I think that's going to be my next big purchase.

By the way, the tech I mentioned, Nick Bucci, is right off of I95 just a few miles after you cross the PA line...right down the street from you. :D

That guitar looks great. Where are the pictures of your D-18 though? :gethim:

I am starting to get ES-339 GAS too, damn you guys

I will post one. The ES-339 is sitting on the D-18 case. As far a tech's I use Ron Regeriuo out of Philly. He is also very good and a Martin warranty shop.

Here she is 1968, battle worn, and loud enough to do acoustic gigs for 100 people without a mike. The best Martin I ever played.
