Anyone play those EC-1000 CTMs? I'm looking at a few used ones. ...Wish they had the contoured heel.

If you want a full thickness, high quality ESP, the Skolnick model simply kills. Fat, fat neck though. But, the Duncans suit me better. Owned 3 of those. Fine guitars, indeed. Been eye-balling this one.

Well, I took stock of a used black and MAPLE neck CTM from GC. Liked it, and agree with above: i'm not a big fan of the EMGs. Also, this one is totally beat to shit and in dire need of a major setup, new nut, had dings and a chunk of the back of the top of headstock missing. Very disappointing in GC for selling this guitar as is. I'm bringing it back today and letting them know they will not be able to sell this to any guitar player at the price they are asking. Terrible.
But, I like the way the CTM feels.

How about the Epiphone Matt Heafy Les Paul Custom? Seems comparable to the CTM, but it has more traditional LPC look and features and it has the contoured heel.

I did an EMG 85 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck. I don’t like EMG typically, but the 85 sounded great in this guitar. My other one had a set of DiMarzio 36th in it. Those were alright. I actually liked the EMGs better though!

Cool. ...I had the CTM, black with maple neck, but it was so beat up (bought from GC online), I returned it the next day.
I JUST pulled the trigger on the Epiphone Matt Heafy. Full thickness, 60s neck, EMGs (ugh...), but I got a crazy good deal on it new, so I can mod it with chrome or gold hardware if I want, etc. ...AND, it has the scalloped/contoured heel.

Don't know why people don't like emgs? They beat the piss out of everything else I've tried. I actually LIKE less dynamics. They keep things even throughout the gig and make it easier to be fluid, at least for me.

Personally, I played EMGs for about 8 years. At first, they were perfect for what I was doing. Sounded great, easy to play, cut well. During those years, my style changed to include more dynamics and I ended up fighting the EMGs to get the feel I wanted. So, I switched back to high output passives and didn't have to fight them as much. Since, I've gone on to incorporate low output passives, too. For my style, they have their uses, but won't cover everything. Same with the mid and high output passives. For me, it's all about having the right tool for the job and I feel, for my style, that passives just work better for me. It's not that I don't like EMGs, it's that they don't work for me with my current style. Can't speak for anyone else, though.

Yep... that, too. I can't justify having more than 3 or 4 guitars if they all sound the same. Of all the EMGs I've tried, the 85 is my favorite humbucker and the SA is my favorite single coil from the EMG line. With backups, that's 4 guitars max....napalmdeath":2cpq75me said:
