Does anyone use EV speakers? I was recommended they'd sound better than my celestion g1275's but know nothing about them. Are they any good?

I feel they let the amps tone through more. 200w you have to really crank to get any break up, if you can get break up lol.

I use 2 with my MK III. Mesa put out some Marks with them. Marshall has a cab with the EV 12 L BLS 300w speakers (same ones I have) that is for a Zak Wylde Cab. Many others have used them from amp speakers to PA speakers

I'm interested in them too. Two things concern me...price and weight. They're over $200 new, nearly $300, and they weigh about 20lbs. These are the black label EV's I'm referring to. All the demos I've heard sound really good.

yeah they are about twice the weight. There is a pair in the classified for $250
A Great feature is the speaker wire spring clips, no more soldering. All speakers should have this feature.

I was just reading about these the other day.. I think the consensus is that these speakers need to be driven really really hard to shine. In the bedroom, maybe not so good. But when opened up, they are stellar. I've also heard g12T-75's in older cabs that were well broken in and they sound pretty awesome too. So much that i am thinking maybe i should ditch all these variations of greenbacks i roll with and just go with an old beat up 1960 cab.

Yup, my favorite speaker. I have a few evm12l and one evm12s just for a different flavor.

I had the G12 T75 speakers. x pattern with C80? Egnater speaker? and also did it with the C90 mesa speaker. Great speakers- I prefer c90 G12 T75 and EV12L for my preference of tone The C80 was ok, like a V30 smoothed over... eh its a good speaker mixed with another

I had pair of 12Ls and did not like it too much, but they are very sensitive regarding the used cab and amp. The EVM 12l shows its potential best in a corresponding TL806 cab and with amps delievring a "complete" tone like mesas, riveras do.

What I still have in daily use is the EVM 15l in an extension cab for my Rivera combo. If you like big and chunky clean tones from a Strat neck PU the EVM delivers.

And regarding the initial question, I wouldn't say they are better then t75s, the EVs just cover different use cases.

Love EVM12L's, but some do find them sterile. In the right cab like a Mesa halfback 412 or mesa thiele they are great. Make sure your baffle can handle them before installing.

My mesa halfback 412 cab with 2 MC90's and 2 EVM12L's amazing works great with all my amps and I have a pretty good variety.

The EVM-12L is often described as sterile. I think a more useful term would be "honest", as it gives EXACTLY what you give it. As has been said, don't expect speaker cone breakup to be had. I use mine with a pair of MESA Thiele cabs with my Mark IIC+ amp(in my avatar) to achieve a huge sound with a small footprint on the floor.

I too love the EV speakers. I had ordered an Emperor 2x12 and wanted something different and was given the option to have it loaded with Eminence Delta Pro 12a's but while waiting for the cab to be delivered came across an amazing deal on some original EVM12L's so was able to A/B them. Ended up putting one EV and a Delta Pro in the cab and thought it sounded great with my Herbert. Much preferred the tone over my Bogner Uberkab I also had at the time and ended up selling the Bogner. Although I've since loaded the cab with Scumback 100w H75/M75 combo I still have a 1x12 with the EVM12L. Just like others said, what your amp throws at it tonally is what you get.

I'm intrigued by the new Eminence Legend EM12s, which were clearly built as an EVM12L type speaker....

I wonder if those are anything like a eminence ms12, which was only made for Mesa, but they are highly sought after for those in the know.

I sent eminence an email and asked.

1960B cab loaded with 2 EV OEM 200watt and 2 Celestion anniversary 30watt in an X pattern...
Sounds great but the cab weight is a bit much.....
