O.K., so now I'm becoming bored with the free-form jams. Well, maybe not bored with them, but I'm going through a phase of low motivation... I need a project or something and actually want to do a vocal based project with Drew (drucifer), but I'm having trouble getting off my bung and writing.

Why am I posting this? I don't know really but I haven't been posting much so I thought I would post this just because, well, it's a post.

If I had some software and a computer that was worth a shit at home, I would love to work with you on something. Lately waht I have done for motivation is pick up the acoustic. Not only does it add an extra flavor, its helping with the chops as the acoustic is a wee bit harder to rip on than the electric.

If I had an acoustic I would definitely give that a shot. Maybe I could learn some old folk tunes or something. I'm just completely unmotivated right now. I need a good mixing project or something; I just don't really feel like playing the guitar.

Are you jamming with the same people and rehashing the same types of tunes all the time? If so, maybe its time to step out of your comfort zone for a bit. Maybe a blues gig or jazz gig or country gig is in order.

It's often the same people. We don't have any tunes so it's not that, I'm just uninspired to even play lately. A blues/jazz/country gig would be neat, but that would require me to learn stuff, and I'm lazy. For every good idea you have, I have a reason I cannot do it. :D

I wish I had something helpful to tell you, but since I suffer from the same syndrome, there is not much I can say that will help.

You know this over the intardweb session is not having the results I was hoping for. I say you get ahold of sah5150 and head to Hollingshead and talk this over in person. I will be unable to make this session but wish you luck and many beers.

Just knowing you're there for me is enough Ralph. Hey, why don't we agree to work on a 13 tune instrumental project? I mean, we know darned well that it's not going to get done, or even started, so there's no harm in having starting the project for motivation since it's not going to get done anyway!

Funny, I thought that free form Jams were your Stock in trade, your go to thing. I would think that a project like what you are talking about with Drew would require a bit of effort; more than youre willing to put in if youre in low motivation mode. Unless Im misunderstanding and you need something like that to snap you out of the funk so to speak...

Either way, I would love to hear it!!!

BTW, Our friend 9ball really stepped up his stupidity!!! talk about dumb!!!

You're right, the free form jams have been the one thing that's been motivating me for a while now but even that is fading on the excitement level lately. I've actually been thinking about putting a local listing up offering recording and mixing services to make a little extra money and have some fun. The reason I haven't done it though is I fear that I'll just get a bunch of penny pinching enema bags calling me.

Somehow, I dont think that you telling them "No" is going to be a hard thing. Besides, you have an incredible piece of reference to refer them to, direct them to Retrofitted. After that, I dont think that haggling will be an issue IMO...

Personally Bob, Im of the very strong opinion that with such a strong body of work thats represented on Retrofitted, Making extra $$$ with your recording/production chops is a no brainer but what do I know... Like I said, your best piece of advertising is Retrofitted; something thats easily accessed and free!!!

Yeah, it snowballed after you left and I pulled a Bob/Thump manuever on him. he took the bait and did exactly what I thought hed do...

You're too kind, Kage!

Hahaha, he took a pretty bad beating as it was. I'm surprised he wanted more.

Im just being honest Bob, if you think about it , youre not competing with the high ticket recording studios. Youve actually got a nice little niche right under neath it... Youre offerening comparable work( or reasonably close ) at what Im sure will be prices alot more attractive than what they could find at any of those places that they would initially scope out. In comes you with Retrofitted as an example of youre work and John Q Public is going to say to himself " Wow, this is just as good as any of those other guys and I wont have to sell a kidney to do it." Not only that, youd probably offer a more personable experience than a commercial out fit.

My recomendation is that you price out the going rates of the afformentioned studios and then determine a rate that is attractive to others while being something that makes it worth your while; Undercutting the big guys because you just dont have their overhead....

How does that sound?

Me likey! I've actually been considering mix only services over the Internet, but I'm somewhat leary of the quality of tracks I might be sent and the difficulty it could be making them sound good. Still, that would be far simpler than doing the tracking too. The problem with that is there are loads of online services like this so drumming up business would probably be difficult at best.

+1 to making some extra coin. Another thing recording others will do is inspire you personally. Sure you'll hear a lot of garbage, but every now and then you'll hear something fresh. Even seeing some guys play that aren't that good, but they are REALLY into playing can be inspiring. Why do we play guitar anyway? I also think doing a project with a singer would be fun for you. When you started playing it was probably more about being in a "rock band" than being a fantastic solo artist I'm guessing? For me personally, playing is 80% about playing live and 20% about playing by myself. People like songs that have words, etc., blah, blah, blah. So to me that's the funner thing to do. If things get REALLY bad, play bass for a punk rock band.

Bob,

i think your best bet is to hook up with a local studio that either has software that you know or you could bring your laptop to the studio for session work. I would also put out some adds for people looking for a producer. This way you will keep the douchepickels out of your house.
