Just got offered US$6400 for my serial # -1- 100B. I considered it but I don't realy want to sell it. Am I nuts?

Yeah you are pretty nuts if you ask me. Although a great amp, you can still replace it for much less and have the exact same sounding amp, with everything except serial number 1. Which might mean something to a collector.

Even so that money invested now can yield much better results in the future than if they were tied up to the amp (and the amp was sold later) That is just my opinion, some people might think otherwise of course. So from a money making point of view I much rather get the cash too...

Btw that price is ridiculously high!!!! Never seen em going for that...

It not all about the money. If I sell it I don't have the option of plugging into a fantasic amp. Don't under estimate music gear prices, just look at what you pay for a '59 Les Paul, if only I'd bought that one for 10k that time. I said to the guy selling, who'd pay 10k for a LP!

Yeah, sounds like you are set on keeping it anyway. Hey if you will regret it and are attached to that piece of gear don't do it.

I was just saying that the catch here is that there is a sort of arbitrage going on, unlike Les Pauls where you won't find one cheap, you can still get a 100B much cheaper than what you are being offered for yours and still get the same sound + cash...

Btw That Bogner does sound sweet your clips rock!

ANY and ALL pieces of gear that I own have their price. They are tools. Even if there's some sentimental value there, they still aren't living, breathing things and if the price is right, I could find an amp that sounds just as good and still have gobs of money left over. Used amp prices are in a tailspin right now. I'd take $6400 in a heartbeat for that amp (as COOL as it is). But if the ridiculous money-offered means nothing to you and you like that amp, then it's your call and who is anyone to question your decision? Though I'd take that offer in a second, it must be pretty cool to be the guy who owns #1.

Sorry but if someone offered me 2-3 times what I paid for an amp, yup, I would sell it, I am not a collector, I am a working guy and would use that money for something else. But hey thats just me, there are a ton of great sounding amps out there no matter what serial number they may be. But hey, if being a collector is your thing then hold onto it I guess, it may go up, who knows in this economy and who knows what the future would hold..

If you are happy with it and don't need the cake, keep it man.

It's interesting to hear different peoples' views. The way I see it is that I'm really happy with this particular amp, so I would probably kick myself later if I sell it. I've been through sooo many amps and nothing is quite like this one. Although the offer did make $ signs light up in my eyes, I think it will stay for now.

I paid quite a bit for this amp so the offer is by no means 2-3 times what I paid. I have used it regularly for the past 7 years so I do get use from it. Thanks for the input.

Sure, but this particular amp has some history. Congrats on the Marsha, you're going to love it, thanks for the kind words.

yeah, sure...thats a lot of money you could go amp shopping with.

but, if youre like me and have found gear that really fits you...then you will miss it more than you'll enjoy spending the cash. besides, the way things are headed, a few years from now $6400 wont be much money when you look back at it.

before anyone gets the wrong idea, and thinks im just some rich guy blowing smoke...i'm not. i just know, from my personal experience, that my guitar playing is something that i enjoy very much and feel very passionate about. i dont think about money and value the same practical way as i would if we were talking about buying a commuter car or a riding lawnmower.

good luck with your decision.

I've got a couple of amps that I wouldn't take $6000 for. That would be doubling and tripling what I have in them. They just hit the sweet spot and cannot be reproduced.

One of my Cameron mods and a Marshall modded by John Suhr. Both are Aldrich mods.

Steve I thought you had a handwired amp by Suhr with the Aldrich specs...

Nevertheless you are one Aldrich mod fanatic!

Nico.
