Question for you evh guys. Any of you use it with a greenies loaded 4x12? My buddy has a marshal with UK greenies he's looking to unload. I've played a few amps through it, and it's always killed. I'm learning once again that I'm a 4x12 guy.

Thoughts?

There's green backs in my 5150 III 2x12 combo. Not really what you asked I know. First I think the combo sounds killer. When new it was very Fair Warning sounding to me on the the blue channel. I always use the power scaling so that helped a bit I'm sure. Then I would plug into one of my Peavey 5150 4x12 cabs and was all yep, it's a 5150. Speakers made a big difference. I used both the 4x12 and the combo on its own a while. Then I realized the combo speakers were sounding much closer to the Peavey cab. Must have been breaking them in after a couple years here. So now I don't bother using the 4x12. The speakers sound pretty close so why bother? Now the reason for all this. Regardless of what anyone says Ed wanted the Peavey cab to sound like his Marshall cab loaded with greenbacks. I can hear similarities. So while it's not really loaded with greenbacks the Peavey 4x12 is closer than I ever would have guessed. I've had vintage 30 comparisons drilled into my head for years. Probably not really how the Peavey cab sounds. So long story short my combo sounds great through my 4x12. It's a little better as just a combo. Sometimes I want the 4x12 projection thing though.

I'm a 4x12 guy and have dragged one to smaller gigs where it's overkill. I prefer the sound of the 4 speakers working together. And can't beat the added thump!

I hear you. I'm not sure why the 2x12 cab doesn't have grenies when the 50 watt combo does lol

Its not that it's a bad cab. It's actually very good, but I miss a nice 4x12 and I have a line on a great marshal for a steal. I sat in on a gig of his once. 6505+ through the cab in question. Crushing rig. And I played his older 2 input quick rod (which I ended up buying) and it sounded fantastic. This leads me to believe the evh 50 watt will sound great with it.

I'm going to try the combination before I buy, but was looking for a few thoughts on the matter. Thanks for the input, man!

Do it, bro. I had a 5153 50 for awhile, and it sounded great through my GB loaded Splawn 4x12. Much better to my ears than my Scumback loaded Marshall 4x12 and a V30 loaded Bogner 4x12 that I heard it through. Very balanced with a nice grit, and just thd right amount of sag. Do it bro, do it!!!

Can't handle the peer pressure! :p

I always ran my EVH 50w head through my EVH 4x12. The stock EVH speakers are pretty close to Greenbacks. I had a 2x12 with G12T-75s at the practice space and always thought the 50w head sounded fine through it. But last week I ran my 100s through the 2x12 at band practice and it sounded awful. Some heads are only meant for 4x12s and some sound good through anything. The EVH 50w is a very universal head. It works with everything.

I brought my EVH 50W to a rehearsal space once, where they had a Marshall 1960BX (4x12 with Greenies).
It crushed! All the punch, fatness and rawk, none of the fizz, screech or thinness.

I think that's the exact model cab I'm looking into. I know it's older and has UK greenbacks. Don't recall seeing the badge, though. But no matter! Rawk is good. Lack of screech is also good!

Good info. Thanks for the reply!

When I had a 5153 for a small time, I ran it through a Marshall VM cab, G12C greenbacks. Liked that much better than V30s or any other combination.

I have the 2x12 combo with greenies. It's rock solid.

On the flip of that, I put greenbacks on top of my Splawn 4x12 with the Stealth and didn't like them at all. I was shocked. Then tried other speaker combinations with the stealth too and no luck. Throw back all 4 governors back in and the stealth is one kick ass piece of gear. A lot different than the combo. Combo has more squish, stealth is way more articulate/tight.

Both are great though. It's finding what works for how u are using it.

Give Amplifire a buzz. He has a 5153 4x12 he may sell.

I run my EVH stealth head with two EVH 2 x 12 cabs loaded with vintage 30's on the bottom and the greenbacks on the top. It makes them easy for transporting. I stack the two on top of each other and they fit perfect in my back seat.

Can't believe I didn't just say this to begin with.

Ed uses 4x12 cabs with greenbacks. If it's good enough for him...

Plus I'm betting that's what he used to r&d the 50 watt head. So a 4x12 with gb is probably the perfect fit.

Hehe. Yeah, there's that, too!
