On the lookout for one of these but don't really know the ins and outs of all the different models am betting we have a few experts on here.

Looking for a USA and thinking of getting a Peavey model but would love to hear the pros and cons of each of the types....typical prices etc.

Ive owned all 3, The necks are very different. my fav is the ernie ball. all are great guitars and very similar rock machines. you can find an USA evh for around 1700-2k, a peavey 1000-1500 and the ernie ball axis for around 1100. an evh ernie ball is a bit more, around 2k. The ernie ball neck feels like a broom stick, very well balanced and easy to play. The peavey is an arch top body and is a slimmer neck but fat up top and slim on the bottom and a bottom heavy guitar, the EVH is also a arch top and has a very thin compound radius neck shape.

I think the peavey Wolfgang is one of the BEST production rock guitars ever made. The becks are to die for and the pickups are just insane. Dynamic and clear.

I have a soft spot for all music man guitars. Fantastic guitars for sure

When you say the Peavey is a bottom heavy guitar - do you mean weight or tone?

I've had all three, currently have the Peavey Wolfgang Std and EVH USA Wolfgang. Generally, the Peavey and the EVH are more similar than the EB/MM. The Axis/EVH neck has a more narrow, round shape to it - very unique. I haven't played my Peavey for quite awhile, but I think its neck is very similar to the EVH. I've had several of the Axis models, and with all of them I found that I was cranking on the truss rod frequently. They seem to be more sensitive to the climate I guess, but it was something I noticed. The necks on the Peaveys and EVHs are rock solid in my experience. I'd recommend looking for a nice Peavey Wolfgang Std, they are just simply great guitars.

I have them all and my favorite as of now is the Peavey, but my EVH's are equal, i like the thinner neck on the EVH a lot on some days and the fatter Peavey on other days. Pickups on the Peavey are a bit less high output and very crunchy compared to the EVH, i changed the EVH pup for an Aldrich and it is perfect now.

I use both EVH with my band, tuned to drop C and drop B and they rock hard!!!!!!

That is just eff'n beautiful!

I had no idea the body shapes were so different. I like the middle orange one considerably more than the two on the ends and a little more than the purple one. This might explain why I like the look sometimes but others not at all. Now I want a Peavey Wolfgang.

I think the pic is distorted a bit on the sides, they are not that wide, they are closer to the Peavey than this picture.

I will take another picture later of them, verticaly instead.

Thanks man, the ones on the outside look super fat compared to the others..it's probably mostly lens distortion.

The Orange one is the Peavey? Which model/year? I think Im even more in love now....

I thought there might be a 'house-of-mirrors' effect going there.

Here's a Wolfgang.
Here's a Wolfgang...on acid.

I think the fact that all of these guitars are sought after and great tone machines is a testament to Eddie Van Halen's attention to detail regardless of who he was with at the time.

I used to own the lower priced Peavey Wolfgang and it was a great guitar. I had the lower priced Wolfgang as well. I've never had an Ernie Ball but craving one big time. Can't really go wrong with any of them.

ive gassed for an EBMM EVH since I saw him on the cover of a guitar mag with one back in the 90's

I have 2 EVH USA WG's. One with a maple board, and one with an ebony board. I like them a lot.

I had an EVH WG Custom, but my only gripe was that it was too heavy for me (hurt my shoulder, because I'm a wimp), so I traded it.
Otherwise, all 3 of the EVHs I've owned are fantastic guitars.

Lets face it, for a guy who plays maybe couple hours a month...I need another guitar like a hole in the head, just always wanted to try one and have a deal I don't wanna pass up.

I've had the EBMM and the most recent Fender EVH USA Stealth. I LOVE the EBMM. The Fender was super cool, but the frets were tiny, and it was almost 'too nice.' I think the stealth finish stirred up some OCD about finger prints and scratches, which is strange because I'm NOT at ALL concerned about my guitars getting bumped around. I ended up trading the Stealth for an SLO, so it worked out.

Here's my EBMM. . .

Steve...I should bring over my Peavey HPs for your to play...

Had the import MIJ Stealth, seriously one of the best guitars I've ever owned. Neck was great, frets were awesome, they're incredible bang for the buck guitars. At the time I had a USA McCarty and a luthier built LP and it stood up to them evenly.
