Hey guys,

For whatever reason, I was under the impression that EVH only had one branded humbucker (although sometimes manufactured in different places). Somehow I missed the fact that there is a Wolfgang pickup and a Frankenstein pickup that's made my Seymour Duncan, but w/ EVH branding from what I hear. The weird thing to me is that the Frankenstein pickup doesn't even come on the Frankenstein replica...? Seem odd to me.

Does anyone know the differences in the pickups or the story behind it? I can see some difference in the specs, but aside from that I have no idea.

Thanks!
M

The Frankenstein is Duncan's wind for the last pickup that was in his Franke guitar. It's a Custom Shop wind, so $$$. EVH branded guitars use EVH branded electronics, including the pickups. Also the Wolfgang pickups that are in the Mexican and Indonesian models are not the Made in USA Wolfgangs that come in the USA Wolfgang models. The USA are also the ones you can buy aftermarket.

I thought the Frankenstein pickup was snake oil, but I grabbed a used one and it's really awesome. I've had Jalen make me several clones of it in various forms - zebra, clear bobbin and all with four conductor wire for coil-splitting. Love them!

I have the franky pickup in my Charvel Star and its an excellent pickup. If I ever sold the Charvel, I'd take that pickup out first, its waaayy cool! Essentially, its a Custom Custom with a degaussed (aged) Alnico 2 magnet. and yes, its different from a WG.
