OK, the verdict is not out yet, but I'm gonna share my first impressions.

First I used to have EVM12L original in a mesa cab. It was nice, but harsh on top. Based on this experience I bought EVM12L RI & installed it in a Bogner cabinet. As far as I can tell they sound similar. I didn't AB them side by side, but there is definitely not enough difference to worry about and after all the important thing is that EVM12L RI sounds great, my favorite speaker by far. Today I've just received EVM12L BL ZW, supposedly a better version of EVM12L Classic, & OS Avatar 1x12. So far I'm not impressed at all, I'm not impressed with the Avatar either. Granted the speaker is new & it needs some time to get broken-in & I also need to put some insulation in the back of the Avatar to tame the top end, but so far it sounds pretty harsh & thin, more importantly I don't hear the great lows & low mids & overall flat frequency response I get from EVM12L classic. I'm gonna take it to rehearsal space this Tuesday & put it in some action, I really hope my first impression is misleading.

To be continued....

The cab itself has alot to do with the sound. Try swapping speakers around between the cabs and see if the results are consistant.

Is the reissue EV12L lighter than the original ? A few people said they were a couple lbs lighter. If true, thats got to make a difference.

Isn't the Black Label a 300 watt speaker. Seems you would really have to drive them to get any bottom at all. But, yeah, let us know the outcome. You certainly wouldn't want to put it in the same cab with something like a V30. Ever tried those speaker diffusers that Ted Weber sells?

No. What the heck is that?

Well, EVM12L classic is 200wt, but there is plenty of bottom end without being unreasonably loud.

Anyway, it's getting better, starting to sound like EVM little by little ... time will tell.
