new preamp tubes in my HK access preamp REALLY woke it up. It was like it wasn't responding correctly at all with those used up GE NOS pups. Threw some JJ's in for the hell of it. GREAT improvement.
2.
Swapped the sovtek 5881's in my marshall 9100 power amp for JJ 6L6's. night and day. It really was too bright with the 5881's. drastic improvement.

the engater seminar amp is a blast to swap tubes. easy to bias with a multimeter (built in resistor for this purpose. first, the stock JJ E34L (Bruce's choice) sound incredible, but for kicks, I tossed in some random military Russian 5881's. It yielded a totally different, Ratt/Dokken like scream. cool stuff.
