Experience with the Rectifier Roadster?

A friend of mine has owed me money for a while, and wants to make it right by giving me a Recto Roadster. I was with him when we got it, and we got a deal on it because it sounded like a bag of ass at GC I knew what it was because it had reverb, and we brought it to my house and easily fixed it. I had about 5 minutes to hear it working though, before he gleefully went on his way. Is this amp worth keeping or is it a flipper?

They can sound good if you fuck with them . But they are not liked by some i know . But id take it if he ain’t paying up

He's a good friend, so I haven't pressured him. He feels bad though, and wants to wipe the slate clean. He offered it, I wasn't asking. Honestly, you know how it is with friends... If you loan a friend money, consider it a gift if you don't want to lose a friend. This is just bonus he wants to pay me back.

I meant more, is it an amp worth keeping, or should I just make plans to flip it. I gotta start writing ads now, lol.

I have a TRec, so I can't see keeping it unless it's badass.

Flip after you try it with you best cab .

man, it must be doggy doo, no one is defending it.

I have a ground zero modded triple rec and a roadster. The roadster has a great clean channel and the crunchy low/mid gain channel 2 is cool...but it's a bit dark and flubby. Need to dial the bass and gain back and use a boost. I much prefer my triple rec as it's thicker with some more bite.

If I didnt have the triple rec I'd probably keep it but it definitely needs a good boost. I can understand why people don't love them but they sound great if you take time to dial them in

Hey thanks man, I have his Helion and I love it, that's a great suggestion. I didn't even think of that!

I've got a Hellion too. One of my favorite amps I've ever owned. Works really well with the rectifier too.

Either way, I think the Roadster is a good amp. Especially if you like Rectos and want one a little bit darker. I'd just dial back the bass and boost the highs/mids. Pull the gain back and hit the front with a good OD and you'll be pretty happy. Only problem is the loud popping from channel switching.

I've owned a Roadking 2 for a long time, and Roadster is a close sibling. I really like the amp. It is a DualRec, but with great clean channel. Yes, I can see why people say it is a little but more dark sounding. But you can EQ it anyway you like. But it is a little bit more complex sounding amp than most DRs as well. Anyway, I love it.

Roadster is an excellent platform dual rec and unfortunately suffers from a case of XTC. You have to dial it in with your ears and not your eyes. They can be made to sound as good as anything else recto flavor. With the Gibson buyout and no longer being able to buy recto reborns anymore (redeaths?) there’s a significant valid claim that they’re actually going to increase in value, not drop. They don’t suffer from the buggy complexities of the road king. They aren’t a fan favourite for the same reason so many people wrote off XTCs before everyone figured out how to dial them in. I don’t hate roadsters but I’m not going to seek one out either - I’d rather have a reborn black edition.

I agree . I don’t think it’s a bad amp at all .

I owned a couple roadsters, i liked the clean channels and lower and mid gain tones, ch3 & 4 sound good boosted, like others have said its darker sounding but still sounds like a recto, i always thought it was a good amp. I used a uberkab and tradtional 4x12 mesa cab with mine.

I sometimes miss mine.. and can't believe I sold it for $850 like... 8 or 9 years ago. Definitely remember it being on the darker side and I wasn't big on boosting at the time, but they do the recto thing well. Does he have the footswitch too?

I've got one. It's a decent amp and a different flavor than most of my other amps, but I was trying to move it a while back. Only reason was to build some funds for the Friedman Jose, and it was an amp that is still readily available in the market. Most everything else I have right now would be harder to replace, so it made sense to move that one. Problem was, I couldn't give it away locally and I didn't feel like shipping, so I just took it off the market and kept it. Didn't hurt my feelings any to keep it.
