So many amps in the classifieds I wanna buy right now for top dollar , let’s change it up best amp under a grand . Let’s hear it !

You can usually find a Mesa Blue Angel for under $1k. It may only have one channel and reverb, but that one channel and reverb are among the most beautiful I ever heard.

Easily on par with any amp I ever played through for gorgeous cleans to old school power amp crunch.

All used...

65 TRRI
Mig50
JCM900/2000
Diavlo 45
JTM30 2X10 (say no to JTM 60, imo) for a fun versatile combo.
Peavey classic 30/50
Roland JC
Jet City JCA50
Peavey XXX/JSX

For parts sourcing, I believe that some late 70s MusicMan Combos had Sylvania 6CA7 and EVM12L speakers and can be found cheap. Have seen a few and all had those sylvanias in them. Not 100% certain on the speakers, though.

Always wanted to try one of those but never seen one in person. Seems like an amp I would enjoy. Simple and straightforward. However I do not have plush silvery grey carpeting in my home like the usual MESA guy. You?

I can only see doing this over a vintage SF if you don't know a good tech. Even so, many of them are probably not far from needing tubes, caps, or other stuff if you are going to gig it hard since a lot of the reissues are "old" amps already. I consistently see them going for the same price as the classic SF which doesn't make sense to me.

My list is just based on my experience of owning those amps, so can't recommend or not a SF over a RI. Most of the SF I've seen though were modded and needed work, so not sure what's what value wise. Figure it's probably going to exceed the OP budget if needing work, even for DIY is all. TRRI are pretty abundant around here (hipsterville) and much cheaper than SF usually.

I see guys trying to get 750-850 for the TRRI's around here with SF's running from 750-1200. I have definitely dumped some dough into BF'ing and recapping both of mine completely though I did a few hundred gigs between the both of them before I sunk a ton of cash. The 67-69 seem to command about $1200 "cause it's a sixties twin, man", that's what I paid for mine but I got a 72 in a mojotone cab for $500 in '18. I saved all my $1 bills from gig tips that year and had like $700 worth in rolls of 50 and bought an amp, lol.
