Planning on retubing the TJ. What do you guys like? I'd be curious to hear a comparison to the stock Sovtek KT88's and what you prefer in the V1 preamp slot...

:rawk:

I've only tried Sovtek, but I'm curious to see what others have tried as well. I wonder how JJs with their compressed bottom end would do... I bet Winged C's would be nice if you're willing to shell out the cash for them.

I had mine re-tubed about a year ago with Gold Lion Genalex KT88s. Big improvement over the stock tubes in my opinion. More articulate sound when playing chords or when playing faster runs, and definitely a bit meaner sounding.

SO sexy... I swear, I think Genalex is cleaning house with their latest bottles. Haven't heard a damn bad thing from ANYONE about this brand.

Hands down, the TJ is my one 'regret amp'. I regret ever selling it. I got a killer deal on it, was in pristine NIB condition, full warranty, and I sold it. Such a fine amp.

They come up used regularly. That is good.

I am getting some schooling on a good wet dry rig. Gonna put the TJ thru the moves on that idea. Slave it into a DSL and then 5153 and see wassup.. The better tube option will be explored...

So much knowledge on RT without the requisite nut hugging of TGP. And not one post bashing a metal amp compared to a Milkman

And happy Friday bro. I am waiting on lunch to hit the table.

Thai food.

Coconut soup, basil shrimp rolls on rice paper, pad Thai spicy hot with grilled chicken. Gotta love Atlanta.

Im from Long Island so I brought the head to this shop http://www.davidsonelectronics.com/ for a complete re-tube using the Genalex KT88's and JJ 12ax7's. The cost of the KT88's was $260 for the quad. I heard and "felt" a very noticeable difference in the amp after the re-tube, which could have been because the amp was in need of some fresh bottles but I really think that the tubes are far superior to the stock ones and Im very happy to shell out the cash to replace them again when the time comes. The guys over at that shop are great to deal with (the owners name is Corey), I dont know if they sell the tubes but if not they could probably steer you toward someone who does.
