Just got my used Renegade head today & am doing some tube swapping. Using a mix of tung sol & eh 12ax7's in v1-v4. SED 6L6 & just ordered a pair of tung sol EL34. This is my 1st EL34 amp, so this will be the 1st time I'm trying those tung sols. Has anybody else used them in the Renegade? Also interested in your preferences for the other tubes in this amp. Thanks!

Congrats on the amp!
The tubes I have in it now are:
V1: Tung Sol
V2: JJ803s
V3-5: JJ83s
V6: JJ803s
Power Tubes: JJ6L6 and JJ E34L's
The JJ803s have 10% less gain than a 12ax7 and it sounds really good in V2 which is part of the clean channel. I also liked it in V6 which is the phase inverter slot.
I've heard good reviews about the Tung Sol EL34's, probably pickup a set to try out later. Do a topic only search in this forum for "tubes" and you'll see what others are using.

Enjoy!

Thanks @Axisman5150, we play the same guitars too. My main guitar is a '94 EBMM EVH model & I have a new Axis on order. Loving the Renegade.

I love my Axis! I've had mine since '96, the frets are worn but it's still my go to guitar. It sounds great through the Renegade. What cab/speakers are you using?
I just bought a celestion G12-65 that I'm going to replace 1 of the V30's in my Mesa vertical 2x12. I've heard the 65's mix well with V30's. I also have the Tourmaster 2x12 with CL80's that sound great as well.

I'm using the TM212 w the elite 80s. I sent my EVH back to Ernie Ball about 6-7 yrs ago for a re-fret, it came back like new. Not only new frets, but neck was cleaned spotless, def worth the $$.

Yeah, I'm going to eventually have the guitar re-fretted. Gary Brawer is a well known lutheir in S.F. that I'll have him re-fret with stainless steal frets and also have the guitar pleked. Just don't have the $ to do it yet.
