I just won a $200 gift certificate from KCA Tubes and want to go all out on my MOD50. I have The SL and DLX modules. I'm currently running TS6550 power tubes and JP 5751's in V1 of the modules. Everything else is stock.

What do you guys recommend?

What don't you like or do like about the tubes that are in there now?

I like everything about my Mod 50. I won a $200 gift certificate from KCA so I thought I'd go all out on tubes.

I'm running stock WA's in the head and TS6550 power tubes. A JP5751 in V1 and a WA in V2 of the DLX. A Tung-Sol in V1 and a WA in V2 of the SL.

I could just get some preamp tubes for my Fender Supersonic and Vox AC30 and leave the Mod50 as is.

Wags,

In my MOD100, I am using SED's 6550's in the two inner slots biased at 45mAh & SED EL34's in the outer slot's biased at 33mAh.

I'm running a TS in V1 (input), a TS in V2 (loop) and a Chinese in V3 (phase inverter) of the amp.

In my DLX and VX I run a JP 5751 in V1 & a TS in V2.

In my SL2x I run a Chinese in V1 & a TS in V2.

In my EG5 I run a Chinese in V1 & a TS in V2.

Works for me.

I'm running TS6550's and love them. I wonder how the SED 6550's sound compared to the Tung-Sol? The JP5751/TS sound great with the DLX.

I may get some NOS glass for the Vox and be done with it.

I though I would dig up this thread and ask one more question. What preamp tubes do you guys run in the actual amp, not the modules?

I've been trying a variety of tubes in my mod 50 (vx and D/D modules currently). Everything seemed a bit to bright and brittle, until I installed the TS 6550 power tubes. They smooth out the high end without losing definition. I play mostly rockabilly and classic rock. Got to say that immediately upon installation I just wanted to play and play. Usually a pretty good sonic sign.

For beautiful articulation during fast runs check out the JJ6L6. For the 12AX7s in the chasis, I'm really liking the new Mullard 12AX7. I also use these in V2 for the modules (Sovtek's 12AX7LPS for V1) -- BMan and EG3/4.

When I bought mine it had a set of mullard EL34s in them that I really liked the sound of. Then a few months later the amp blew up and I had to get it serviced from Egnater. Sounded great, but I don't know if I want to risk it again. I didn't install them myself so maybe they where just biased too hot or something?

Let us know how the little experiment goes. One day I'll get into trying out different tubes..

GT E34L have been my favorite. I also like Sovtek 5881 (smoother than TS 5881), JJKT77 and the TS6550 works well too.
