Due to the overwhelming WIN for Suhr in the last poll against Vigier, I'm making this poll a bit more specific. The Fender American Deluxe and the Suhr Pro Series have a lot of similarities in their available options. Which would you choose? They're both about $2000 and they're both pretty popular - so given the choice, what is your choice?

Peace,
V.

As much as I do like strats, I'm gonna have to go for Suhr.

My guitar teacher has a beautiful USA pro (I think pro) strat, and it's a great guitar in all respects, but I prefer a less rounded fretboard radius, and I like the more contemporary look of the Suhr.

suhrs are gonna win every poll around here dude

Have played many American Deluxes and I own a Suhr. Suhr all day for me.

I appreciate that, but what of Suhr's single coil performance? Does it have the sparkle and the jangle of a well set Strat??

I had a Pro Series S4 but the tone just didn't work for me. Suhr's are nice and polite sounding, they don't punch you in the gut like a Les Paul does. YMMV.

"Nice and polite...". I like that, well worded - as for your thoughts on the Les Pauls, hence the reason I own several of them. They kick ass

I will say Suhr. For around the same price you will get top notch build quality. But if you find a strat that talks to you....

Suhr will hold value. Gets down to the pups to me. A few more winds for a tad me mids, lows, and compression. Could just put a small metal plate below the pup to thin it out and give it more strat jangle if you get a pup that is a litte too hot/thick.

I think the Suhr Fletchr/Landaus sound really, really great. In the neck it's thick and throaty, in the middle it's sweeter sounding and you get those stratty inbetween tones in position 4. I think they're very versatile too and I've covered rock, blues, funk, soul and reggae stuff on them with ease. They're very popular over at TGP too, for what that's worth. A lot of people tend to like Suhr's V60LPs too.

As with everything, YMMV and it's probably best you try them.

(Please forgive me for the hijack)

See - I love all the classic rock tones coming from LP's but I just can't freaking play 'em!!
Something with the neck angle of attack to the body is just not right for me.
That, and I have never had any luck with set-neck guitars ever.
I am resolved to the truth that I am a bolt-on 25.5 kinda guy and that's it.

So I'm building a mahogany hard tail super Strat right now, P90 in the neck. Hopefully this is the LP Killer for me!

I'll accept your hijack and raise ya one. For the 100 LP's I've played thoughout the world, there might have been one or two of them that played and sounded as well as my Suhr. (to me anyway) the quality of the hardware, the feel of the neck, the versitality of the pickups and the over all balance is hard to find in anything else I've played. John's crew puts out a great guitar and any serious guitarist owes it to themselves to try one out.

Fender.
I am not a Suhr guitar fan at all. (I love the pedals and pickups)
( and I base my opinion on trying about 35-40 of them)

I've owned a few Suhr's and played plenty, maybe it's the pickups because most of them don't sound like anything special to me. They're made well, but most every Suhr I've played sounds thin and is on the bright side. I've seen guys compare Suhr's to other guitars through a setup with tons of preamp gain where a Hello Kitty Squire Strat would sound the same with all the gain going on. I'm not hating on Suhr, just pointing out my findings.

Here's an example in the following video. When Carl switches from the Suhr modern to the LP, the LP kills the Suhr, IMHO.

Thanks for the clip, I agree the LP sounded a little more chunky on the rhythm playing, but Carl was way more articulate on the Suhr, it almost seemed as though he was wrestling the LP to get it to perform. but thats to my ear on a pair of headphones.
