On the back of my Herbert I have a fuse labeled "Filament - 100mA", next to the powertube-fuses. I was wondering if anyone knew what this fuse is for, becuase on mine there is no fuse in there, not even a fuseholder but the amp works fine... tried looking through the manual but couldn't find anything, maybe I overlooked it or starting to go blind ;)

Anyone know?

So I take it there's no need for a fuse in there there then? ;)
In that case what was the intention with that fuse-slot? :)

To protect the hum trimmer and rectifier bridge from a voltage spike during power tube failure.

Allrighty, so there might actually be a reason to keep a fuse in there afterall?
If so, where can I get a hold of a fuse-holder for it? Is it some kind of standard, widely available?

Also, another question for Peter, while looking inside the amp today I found an empty preamptube-socket that looked slightly different from the others. It had some weird round metal sort of thing around the tubesocket, about 1½ cm's in height. It's to the right of the pretubes while looking from the front. What's that all about? :)

Just trying to make sure everything is like it's supposed to be :D

If there was a reason to have a filament fuse, Peter would have kept the idea.
Your amp is unlike almost any Herbert, it's a prototype so there may be extra
tube sockets punched in the chassis, or circuit board for reverb, extra gain stages
or whatever Peter wanted to do. From your serial number it appears it's the second
proto from 2004. You have a different layout, face plate, switches, grill and obviously
a few other things that make it different from a production Herbert so there is no real
way to know what should be on the amp other than how Papa let it go out into the world.

Thanks for the reply Mark. Just curious as to what it was, that's why I asked Peter about it :)
Also just wanting to make sure nothing is wrong since I don't know the previous owner and don't want anything to happen to my new baby ;)

Cheers! :D

I didn´t have seen the amp after it was sold
so if the amp is running and there are no
issues just enjoy.
