Hi all: I've learned a bunch form this forum, I hope I can can give a little back with this post (Diego, I think you're gonna love this!). I apologize in advance for the length...

My motivation:
1. Portability. I keep a 4x12 at the rehearsal studio 'cause it's up 20 stairs. I want to make one trip with my head, guitar in a gig bag, and effects in a (not too heavy) bag.
2. I DO NOT like power supplies on pedal boards, or extension cords, or AC running to the front of the stage. I'm sensitive to induced noise from EMI due to less than effective power implementation.
3. I want to hook up and tear down quickly! I sent my Eggie MIDI cable and a 30' length of CAT5 to Mark at Lava Cable and he made me this custom snake (and did a GREAT job!). It contains 3 low capacitance Van Damme signal cables, MIDI, and 2 power lines (9VAC for the Line6 M13, and 9VDC for the wah and whatever other pedals I might add later). I did all of the power (soldering of male and female jacks to the CAT5... lots of heat shrink).

Here's the rig:

AC power creates electromagnetic fields that can induce voltage (noise) onto signal lines (the shield). To prevent this, simply *twist* the pos and neg cables together - that's why I chose CAT5 cable. The current is low (2 amps on the Line 6), but I still chose to double the conductors by using 2 pairs for each power run.

For portability I simply unhook the snake, and place it, along with the M13, the wah, the Eggie footswitch in this $39 Line 6 gig bag! Too easy...

The Eggie footswitch fits perfectly in the front pouch.

I hope this helps - the snake makes it all work.

BTW, I also picked up an Ebtech Line Level shifter. It does the job, but it does alter the sound. Since I'm using the 4 cable method, I decided to go with the parallel loop (no more reverse delay...damn), and it sounds fine (not cool in the series loop tho). I'm bummed that I loose the Egnater reverb this way - I really like it...

One more project down... now to start setting up guitars that have been waiting.

-Mark

Mark that is killer! You were right, I got excited when I saw the thread haha.

It's great how stream lined the whole thing is! I hope mine turns out nearly as neat. Bummer about the ebtech messing with the sound, otherwise it seemed like a great solution. Each loop gives off the same level of effects send though, so wouldn't either way provide the same hot signal to the m13?

What speaker do you have in the 1x12? Also, what's that little box to the side of the head?

Rock on man

Thats some nice work!
Great info, thanks for posting it.

Diego,

The Ebtech shifter is the box beside the head - it does actually work to attenuate the signal from the loop, then boost it again from the M13 (I don't know how - I haven't had a chance to take it apart yet...). I can run my module masters hotter like it like 'em with it (12:00 - 2:00) without the distortion I was getting before. I don't like it in the series loop because it does affect the sound (not too bad), but IMHO is not a perfect fix for -10db effects in a line level loop... I don't mind it in the parallel loop though - I'll just have to use reverb from the M13 and place the reverse delay in one of the pre amp effects banks (nice M13 feature!).

The cab is an Egnater 2x12... I'm going through speaks now to see what I like. Right now I'm playing through those little black cabs to the right. They're actually Theile designed ported 1x12 stage monitors made specifically for guitar - each have an old EVM-12L. They are wedges that make great side fills or front monitors, allowing a lower stage volume - sound guys love em! Sometimes I use the 2 of them and no backline cabs (they're on their sides so they look like straights - let me know if you want to see pics). As far as speaks, I'll likely go with one EV and one CL80 in the 2x12. - Mark

Here's a pic of the Ebtech. Also, I noticed I took the closeup pic of the M13 with the input cable in the wrong jack! I changed it obviously... don't fry me!

Those 2x12 cabs sound excellent, I'm really considering pulling the trigger on one during those sales..
