Hi all: I've learned a bunch form this forum, I hope I can can give a little back with this post (Diego, I think you're gonna love this!). I apologize in advance for the length...
My motivation:
1. Portability. I keep a 4x12 at the rehearsal studio 'cause it's up 20 stairs. I want to make one trip with my head, guitar in a gig bag, and effects in a (not too heavy) bag.
2. I DO NOT like power supplies on pedal boards, or extension cords, or AC running to the front of the stage. I'm sensitive to induced noise from EMI due to less than effective power implementation.
3. I want to hook up and tear down quickly! I sent my Eggie MIDI cable and a 30' length of CAT5 to Mark at Lava Cable and he made me this custom snake (and did a GREAT job!). It contains 3 low capacitance Van Damme signal cables, MIDI, and 2 power lines (9VAC for the Line6 M13, and 9VDC for the wah and whatever other pedals I might add later). I did all of the power (soldering of male and female jacks to the CAT5... lots of heat shrink).
Here's the rig:
AC power creates electromagnetic fields that can induce voltage (noise) onto signal lines (the shield). To prevent this, simply *twist* the pos and neg cables together - that's why I chose CAT5 cable. The current is low (2 amps on the Line 6), but I still chose to double the conductors by using 2 pairs for each power run.
For portability I simply unhook the snake, and place it, along with the M13, the wah, the Eggie footswitch in this $39 Line 6 gig bag! Too easy...
The Eggie footswitch fits perfectly in the front pouch.
I hope this helps - the snake makes it all work.
BTW, I also picked up an Ebtech Line Level shifter. It does the job, but it does alter the sound. Since I'm using the 4 cable method, I decided to go with the parallel loop (no more reverse delay...damn), and it sounds fine (not cool in the series loop tho). I'm bummed that I loose the Egnater reverb this way - I really like it...
One more project down... now to start setting up guitars that have been waiting.
