+1 on those preamp tubes. I even put them in my Cobra after hearing them in the Herbert and I won't be moving away soon unless I get a really good NOS deal :)

My friend just pulled his NOS pre's out of his amp after hearing it with the Ruby AC5 HG's. Great tubes.

Chinese tubes have a great crunch and a very forward, punchy attack. Great for high gain amps like the Diezel. And the Ruby HG+ are the best tested Chinese tubes I've heard.

I wanted to give these preamp tubes a try in my Einstein for V1 and V2,so i did few days ago replacing the stock TAD 7025/E83CC HighGrade tubes,i have to say that the 12AX7AC5 HG+ are nice tubes, low noise and with an overall nice warm sound.

But for my taste that wasn't what i was looking for,the clean channel was pretty much the same but the overdriven sounds became more compressed and warmer yes-but to me the Einstein doesn't need that "help" to produce a warmer sound-and lacked the "bite" that the TAD 7025/E83CC HighGrade have. The sound that i got from the Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+ was very close to a TAD 7025 HighGrade i had put in V2 few months ago cause i had to replace a faulty stock tube and couldn't find a 7025/E83CC.

I'm aiming at a tighter bottom end and more bite, especially on the 2nd channel,i managed to get that sound with just a TAD 12AX7A-C in V2,but hell that was a noisy tube.
I also tried a Tung Sol 12AX7 in V2 but nope didn't work the way i wanted.

So the search goes on...

I have to say they absolutely destroy in this amp. Compliments the amps voicing perfectly.

the jj's that were in there previously sounded like ass in comparison.

Always listen to Papa Diezel when swapping tubes :worship:

I am using the combination of the SED 6550 and the ruby el34BHT both of which Peter recommends.

Did you put the new tubes in V1 only?
