What are you guys using for switching your Fish channels? The way it is wired, it takes two discrete latching tip-sleeve plug switches, but each jack depends on the ground of the other.

Steve

I was using my RJM 16 but I just got a smaller Axess CFX-4 I want to try.

Jorg had me a full compliment of JJ's in 1-7 and a Chinese 12AT7 in V8. All of them with rings on. What are you guys running? I am thinking the JJ's are contributing a little to the noise. Will do some experimenting tonight.

Steve

I have been experimenting with Mullards, Hollands, Eis, Telefunkens and chinese. I think I'm obsessing too much. I like the Mullards the most.

I hate to admit it, but the JJ's sound pretty damn good, but I know at least one is tits up already and gone micro.

Yes David, you probably are getting a bit OCD.

I switch channels with the RJM Amp Gizmo and it works fine. I have a friend that switches channels with a Boss FS-6 and he says it works great.

I still have the stock tubes in mine. Haven't looked to see what they are.

I use the RJM RG16 to switch channels on my Fish...am running it through the power section of my Uber. Haven't swapped tubes yet, but I have noticed that my second Brown channel (formerly Strato) is more open and lively than the first Brown...don't think the tubes have anything to do with that though.

I am using the Voodoo GCX, which works great for looping effects and switching. Cheap and good quality. As far as the tubes, I am loving the sound with the stock tubes, and I don't find them noisy at all. If someone finds something significantly better, I would be interested too.

I was surprised to see a 12AT7 in V8 and figured that was the source of the Shark / Cantrell mod noise. Replaced it with a balanced TAD Highgrade C9. The JJ's couldn't handle the Shark properly with all that abuse and put Penta C8's in V6/V7. V5 got new Penta C9's and all the rest of the JJ's got replaced with TAD Selected ECC83's. I don't think Jorg meant to leave that 12AT7 in V8. It was really backing things up. But, it is smokin now and all 3 gain channels sound different and great. We good to go now.

SO done with ANYTHING "JJ"...

Just saying,

No....not that bad! Well, maybe. They are noisy and can't be trusted. Depends on where they came from and who tested them I guess.

But, to go to the trouble of opening the amp up, might as well change them out to something better. Actually, the Tesla type ECC83S sounded best in most positions. I had some Groove Tubes R1's that are the same thing but rebranded that I trust more. They went in some of the spots. And, the Shark channel with the Cantrell mod is begging for Chinese!

So what does the Cantrell mod sound like? I'm not really digging the Shark channel anyway...clean is cool, and both browns are very cool. I'm also anxious to hear about what tubes you guys are recommending.

The Cantrell mod is completely over the top, disgusting, Rig Talk approved, high gain!   It will get away from you though in terms of feedback. You got to stay on top of it or have a decent gate.

That is so cool. I am getting rid of my rack unfortunately. I have gigs coming up and few funds to complete the rack to my satisfaction. However, someone may get a deal on a brand new Fish. :)

Very cool. I saw you were going to have a dropped Mcnaught to run through it as well. :)
