Shot out everything in the photo. All tested with my Morris UK 78’…..level maxed and gain off. Ignore the Rat side of the Super Rodent for the time being. Keeley and Griffin are clear winners.

Keeley had a smidgen more coloration in the mids than the Griffin which is more transparent. Keeley had more push when set identical. Could even them out by barely cracking gain on Griffin. I can’t pick a favorite yet as this was all done at fairly low volume.

Waza came in last. Has more TS type squish/honk in the mids than the other four.

The yellow and black standard SD-1’s are both Malaysian to the best of my knowledge…….but they sound noticeably different. The yellow one is more compressed and cuts more lows (which I prefer in this application). The black one is bigger sounding and more dynamic and has less dominant mid emphasis.

There was also a Boss OD-1x involved in this. But it sounded like shit compared to all these. I just got it yesterday and returned it this morning. The reviews on the OD-1x baffle me. Yeah it’s quiet, but you can 100% hear that it’s digital. I hate that processed, sibilant sound.

Any differences inside?
circuit wise .... no ..... parts brand wise ... maybe ..... as I started to run out of my stock of WIMA caps I started switching over to Kemet but it's going to sound the same . Kemet has a lot more values in the footprint I use and they sound fantastic ...

What happened to WIMA? Supply chain issues?

Nice !!!
Do you ever run the SD into the Chiron ?
I'd think the other way round? Chiron to push the SD. Maybe I have it backwards, but I thought for gain staging you want to start with a boost/lowest gain first, into OD, into Dist....in order of lowest to highest gain?

Try both ways and see

the chiron has the unique ability to blend the clean signal( inputted signal ) with the overdriven one .... so if you stack in front of it ... it's literally blending the two overdriven tones if you're using something with a little dirt in front of it ... great way to " gain stage "
but by all means try both ....
