I would like to know if the front loaded cab is tuned much differently than the rear loaded cab with the tone tubbys.
Reason I ask, in case you haven't followed the V30 vs. G12K100 thread, I just recieved one of the new German made FL cabs with the 100's, and am totally disappointed.
No bass to the cab at all and it "farts" out very easily. There is no "boom" that carries through the floor for some reason. To my ears, it also is extremely boxy sounding, sounds small like I'm playing through a 1x12 combo. It's like there isn't enough air movement through this cab or something..??..
Today I bought a Crate Blue Voodoo cab and swapped speakers from the Crate to the Diezel cab, and the 100's in the Crate cab. No better in the Diezel cab, but then the Crate cab sounded monsterous with the 100's. Bass that could just about vibrate the furniture across the room and just a general "huge" sound, when playing a baritone guitar on ch3 of the Herbert.
So that means the source of my disappointment is how the cab is tuned rather than the speakers as I initially thought.
Peter, Terry? Should I try a rear load with the Tubbys? Is the RL tuned a lot different? Is there some way I could port my FL cab do get more air moving? I've been super happy in the past with my Herbert on top of my Framus Cobra and VHT Fatbottom cabs, for comparison, which are also both front loaded. What makes this FL Diezel cab sound so much different?
