Hey guys,

I recently got my brand new ESP M-II. It's a great axe. I installed a PAF Pro neck and a Duncan Custom bridge. I'm dealing with the Floyd at the moment. The problem I'm having is: Bad fret buzz on the low strings around the first five frets or so. It's worst on the low A and E. I'm using 10-52 strings.

I've tried raising the action, making small truss rod adjustments, etc. etc. etc. It currently has three springs in the back. I can tune floyds pretty good, but getting the action to sit where I want is always a cluster-fuck of frustration.

Is there a specific order I should follow? If I raise the action to where the buzz is almost gone, it's way too high. The trem might have a slight downward angle, but even when it's evened out there is still buzz.

I'm probably just going about the setup wrong, but I'd love to have this guitar play great without bringing it to the shop.

Experts please chime in!

To me.. that sounds like you need to shim the nut slightly

Buzz below the 7th fret is usually a sign that the truss rod needs to be tweeked. Or as Dan said, you may need to shim the locking nut.

Yup, you could try giving the neck a little relief first and see if that helps the problem at all. If not, then id shim the nut!

Nut height should only need to be adjusted if it's buzzing on open strings. If it's not, then it's a truss rod and/or fret issue.

I bet you anything it is uneven frets. You might have to get the frets leveled again. I need to on one of my ibanez's. usually costs about $50-$80 depending on how much needs done?

Thanks for the replies fellas. I have already tried slight truss rod adjustments with no success really. I think I'm gonna have my shop set it up this time and see what he has to say about it. I probably could shim the nut myself, but I'd rather have a pro do it this time.

It could be the frets too! That's something that he will definitely have to take care of.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, much appreciated.
