I recently bought an old Marshall 4x12 cab. I opened it up so I could put some different speakers in there (an EV), and found that it had foam stuck inside it. The previous owner said it was for "more dhooghh".

Has anyone else put foam inside their cab? What advantages does it have?
Are there any new cabs that come with foam already inside them?

Bogner usies batting inside their cabs. It seems to get rid of some highs.

I like the Bogner cabs with V30's, which usually aren't my favorite.

Hmmm. Thanks for that. I might try some foam in the other cab too.

I would take it out, those cabs sound good, and don't need that crap. Just make sure to tighten all the screws on the baffle.

I have a bogner 4x12 that had the batting on the back panel, I took it out, and it sounds better.

That stuff just makes the cab dead, and non-resonant, which to me does not sound good.

I haven't used that type, but i did use batting in my Splawn 4x12 on 3 sides. I liked it. Helped pop a bit more. That was a straight cab. I've concluded that I like angled cabs better. Just my ear. Some like the low end of the Straight bottoms, I prefer the slanted. To each their own

Every Marshall cabinet I've had over the years did not have any foam or insulation in them.

Wow, I haven't seen this thread for a while!

(Usually it's me getting warnings by moderators and posters about bumping up old threads...mostly on TGP...
Being that I started this thread I don't mind at all.
)

I have to admit it does sound a bit dark. No wonder I miss the "zing" of a 4x12 I sold a while back.
