Footswitch & Effectboard in 1 for my VH4? - no amp-modelling

Hy!

I would like to have the possibility to:
-switch channels on my VH4
-switch between several effects
-save the effect and channel on a floorboard-button

So for example when I am on stage I want to have Channel 3 for the rythm-stuff without any change of the amp and then switch to channel 4 including a chorus-effect for the solo only by pressing one button on a floorboard.

As I am a little bit familiar witch the POD-stuff I know that this would be possible, but the POD unfortunately changes a little bit of the original sound of the VH4.

I don't need any amp-modelling. I only want to have the possibly to switch between saved VH4-channel+effect combinations with one floorboard.

thanx,
-snuff

Onething would be nice too:

If i could record my playing for a while. To record for example a rythm-riff and replay it in loop to find a propper solo melody.

I have a Boss GT-8 which I use for channel switching and effects on my VH4. It does change the tone if I have it in the serial loop, but I moved it to the parallel loop and run it 100% wet.

thanks for the reply!

but what do you mean with "run it 100% wet."

and is there the possibility to record?

When running an effect in a parallel loop you have to kill all dry sound in the effects processor, otherwise time shifted (because of latency in ad/da conversion and processing) dry sound from the effects processor will be added to the dry sound directly from the amp in the parallel loop and cause phase cancellations which sound bad.

I dont think there is a looper (for recording) in the GT-8.

There is a newer boss floor processor (GT10), perhaps it has a looper.

Line6 will come out with 3 new floor processors very soon, HD300, HD400 and HD500 which could be something for you...
http://www.thomann.de/se/line6_pod_hd500.htm
There is very little information availabe on those, they are not 100% official yet, but it seems the HD500 has 28s (according to thomann) of looping available.

Line 6 M13 or M9 would get you there. No amp modeling, just effects and can handle all the midi message stuff you talked about. With this setup you would not need to purchase a midi floorboard, as the fx unit would handle that task. The new POD HD's coming out would work too, but they have amp models so you'd be better off with the M series.

I did't know the M-series could do that... A buddy of mine bought an Line6 M9 to have as an effect and midi channel switcher, but he returned it because he said it didn't work out. Something with the M9 didn't have presets in the usual way but could just turn individual effects on and off, so he couldent go from a clean chorused sound to a lead sound with delay with just one press of a button. Is the M13 different in that sence or did he misunderstand?

And do i need such a mini amp gizmo too for my vh4 like in the video you've posted?

No, The VH4 has MIDI in, so you just have to connect a MIDI cable from the pedal to the VH4.

M13 works, you just have to use it in Scene Mode. So you have 4 Banks of 12 Sounds all directly available via one tap - you can go from a clean chorused and delay sound to a dry rhythm in one step.

If you only use the M13 in the loop, then you can even use the relais switching and have no tone suck when playing without effects. If you use 4CM you have to go through AD/DA, but it's not too bad.

Ok.

On the VH4 only the parallel loop is switchable, the serial is not.

Sorry, but can you be a little bit clearer with this two sentences? As I'm not so familiar with effect boards and so on. Would be perfect!

I just looked after the price of this Line6 M13 and I wonder if there is something cheaper that can do the task for me?

wouldn't for example the Digitech RP500 or PR1000 also fit for me?

The MIDI implementation on the Line6 M-series leave something to be desired. I would look at the GT-10 and unless you set the output to Line/Phones the amp modeling will be disabled. I'd normally recommend the GT-8 because it sounds better, but the GT08 doesn't have the looper.

Not familiar with the Digitech stuff.

Cheers,

You can also check out the Voodoo Lab GCX Audio Switcher and Ground Control Pro.
You have 8 loops in the audio switcher, so in other words, you can plug in 8 pedals, and then you can program any of the loop combinations on your midi board (Ground Control Pro), so this way you can also program which pedals are actually running on a specific channel that you want as well. At the moment, I have the midi board only, so I programmed my channel switching and have certain pedals hooked up to the VH4's channel 1 insert. Eventually I will get the GCX Audio Switcher and this way I wont have to do any pedal dancing whatsoever.

Check out the link :)

Thanx for the info but I have no effect pedals at the moment. So I think that wouldn't me a good deal in my situation.

TC electronic nova-system... with extra 3-way-switch: 3 patches instant at one step and (almost) full control of the fx. Costs 450,- in germany + 50,- for the switch. Can also go without the extra switch.
novasystem.asp">http://www.tcelectronic.com/novasystem.asp</a>
you need the serial loop though.

I had a quick look at those Digitech pedals and they don't seem to have MIDI connectors, so you won't be able to switch channels on your VH4.
